Rob Thomson gets contract extension through 2026; Phillies’ coaching staff returning next season
Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson’s contract will be officially extended through the 2026 season, as announced by president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski this morning.
Dombrowski continued, saying that it’s not just Rob Thomson getting an extension—he’ll be bringing back the entire coaching staff for another go in 2025.
Rob Thomson extended through 2026, coaching staff returning in 2025
Listen, firing Rob Thomson was always just a talking point by Philly Sports Talk Radio and rightfully so. The Phillies’ skipper led this organization to the postseason each of the last three seasons, which included an NL Pennant in 2022 and a NL East Division Championship in 2024, the team’s first since 2011.
Unfortunately, their playoff journey ended in the NLDS, where they fell to the Mets in four games. If anyone was going to get the boot, I thought for sure that hitting coach Kevin Long was set to the organization’s fall guy but at least for now, Dombrowski is moving forward with the entire coaching staff returning in 2025.

This extension shows that the organization believes in Thomson’s ability to keep the team on an upward trajectory. With the coaching staff returning, the Phillies will look to build on their recent successes and strive for a deeper playoff run next season.
