WATCH: Kyle Lowry tells Jared McCain to turn the camera off in the 76ers rookie’s latest vlog on YouTube
The Philadelphia 76ers are set to tip off their 2024-25 season on Wednesday night against the Milwaukee Bucks, and while they will be without Joel Embiid and Paul George to start the year, there’s still a ton of hype around this revamped roster.
The most significant addition is obviously All-NBA wing Paul George, who chose to join Philly in free agency to help bring a championship to the City of Brotherly Love alongside Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
George isn’t the only fresh face—Caleb Martin, Reggie Jackson, and Andre Drummond are also in the lineup and rookie guard Jared McCain, the 16th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, is already making a splash…both on and off the court.
McCain isn’t just a promising young talent from Duke; he’s also a YouTube vlogger with nearly 100,000 subscribers. He’s been sharing his journey through basketball life for years, dating back to high school, and he’s not stopping now that he’s made it to the NBA.
As the Sixers aim for a deep playoff run, McCain seems ready to ramp up his content even more. But not everyone is thrilled about it, especially the old-school vets who aren’t used to living life through a lens.
Kyle Lowry, the veteran guard and Philadelphia native is somewhat known for his no-nonsense approach. In a clip that recently went viral from one of McCain’s vlogs, Kyle Lowry was caught playfully giving the rookie a hard time about always being behind the camera, doing his best “back in my day” routine.

Kyle Lowry isn’t a fan of Jared McCain vlogging.

I really don’t think Kyle Lowry was even series in this video regardless but make no mistake, Philadelphia will eat it’s young and McCain will be targeted the second he or the 76ers aren’t playing well but he’s uploading a million videos on social media.
If he was, I highly doubt that McCain would have included it in the latest episode of his blog. I actually liked the interaction and the fact that Lowry and McCain are together. That’s the type of relationship you want Lowry to create with younger players on the 76ers this season.
It will be interesting to see how McCain handles his internet fame during the NBA regular season and how he deals with the inevitable backlash that comes with it from fans in Philly.
Jared McCain isn’t the first member of the Philadelphia 76ers to be into the social media game. How could anyone forget Matisse Thybulle’s vlogs from inside the bubble during COVID? I actually thought they were pretty great and at one point, Furkan Korkmaz even made his own after the success of Thybulle.
Then of course, Thybulle refused to get vaccinated (smart move) and the entire liberal city of Philadelphia turned on him. Quick note on that: no one ever apologized to Thybulle for being completely incorrect about the vax topic but that’s not the point here.
Matisse Thybulle turned out to be a flash in the pan in Philly before being traded and Jared McCain should be very self aware of that fact given his off-court interests.
Can you imagine a video with McCain posting about his “first NBA roadtrip” where the 76ers dropped 4-of-5 games to fall back outside of the Top 5 in the East?
Our rookie would be cooked immediately.
Whether McCain’s vlogging brings laughs or eyerolls, one thing is certain: the spotlight is on him and the rest of the Sixers as they take the floor at 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday night.
With a mix of new stars and seasoned vets, this could be the start of something special—or at least highly entertaining—in Philly.
