Matvei Michkov awarded NHL Rookie of the Month for October

Matvei Michkov is exactly what Flyers fans have been waiting for and just one month into the 2024-25 NHL season, he’s taking home his first award.

Michkov, who led all rookies in goals (4), points (t-9), power-play goals (3), power-play assists (t-3) and power-play points (6), has been named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for October. He hasn’t just been good—he’s been electric.

Calder SZN: Flyers might be cooked already but Matvei Michkov is confirmed ELITE

In just 11 games, Michkov has racked up 9 points (4 goals, 5 assists), leading all rookies in goals and tying for the top spot in points. With three power-play goals and six power-play points, he’s already proven he’s got that clutch gene the Flyers have desperately needed.

Plus, his three multi-point games show he’s got a consistent spark, not just the occasional flash. Simply put, Michkov is the offensive force Philly’s been craving.

Making his debut on October 11, Michkov didn’t waste any time, scoring his first point the next night and finding the back of the net a few days later in Edmonton.

Every game he’s been out there, he’s made an impact. Averaging 18:26 per game, he’s getting ice time that most rookies can only dream of—and he’s making the most of it.

His scoring ability is no secret, and he’s brought that same lethal edge to the Flyers. Standing at 5’10” and weighing 176 pounds, Michkov’s not the biggest guy on the ice, but he’s got the speed and skill to go toe-to-toe with anyone.

Before joining the Flyers, Michkov tore it up in the KHL with HC Sochi, leading his team in goals and racking up 41 points in 47 games. Flyers fans, it’s time to believe. Michkov isn’t just the future—he’s here now, and he’s exactly what this team needs.
