Andrew Painter is making a statement in the Arizona Fall League, extending his scoreless streak to a cool 10 innings on Tuesday.
The Phillies No. 2 prospect breezed through three more innings, throwing 39 pitches (22 for strikes), allowing no hits, walking one, and picking up two strikeouts along the way.

Andrew Painter continues Arizona Fall League dominance with impressive third appearance
Painter says he wasn’t thrilled with his fastball command
“Obviously not where I want it to be with it, but it’s all part of it,” the 21-year-old shared postgame. Rather than getting rattled, Painter adapted, leaning on his curveball to keep hitters off balance. “At the end of the day, I got it done,” he added, showing that even without his best stuff, he can find a way to dominate.
Painter’s game plan became about working counts and staying ahead without relying entirely on his heater. “Any time the fastball isn’t working, you have to lean on that other stuff,” Painter said. “With the heater, the big thing is getting ahead. I fell behind early, so I had to trust the offspeed to get to 0-2, 1-2 counts and then expand with the fastball.”
Painter’s velocity was still eye-catching, hitting 99 mph on the gun while mixing in an 87 mph slider and an 80 mph curveball. Even with a few command hiccups, he’s kept batters guessing and posting strong numbers.
Now 13 innings into his AFL run, Painter boasts a 2.08 ERA and a razor-thin 0.88 WHIP, with 12 strikeouts and just two walks. With a 20-inning target in Arizona, the Phillies will soon be weighing his next steps, but so far, Painter is giving them plenty to be excited about.
It’s not always about having everything clicking every night; sometimes, it’s about figuring out how to work with what you’ve got. Andrew Painter is doing exactly that—keeping the scoreless streak alive and proving he can adapt, even when the fastball isn’t quite locked in.
