Odds Surge: Quinyon Mitchell officially in Defensive Rookie of the Year race after owning Terry McLaurin
Eagles rookie CB Quinyon Mitchell has been shutting down top receivers week in and week out, but his recent performance on the national stage has officially put him on the map.
Heading into Thursday night’s matchup vs. Philadelphia, standout wide receiver Terry McLaurin had recorded 50+ receiving yards in seven of his last eight games. In the one game he didn’t two weeks ago, McLaurin still had two touchdown catches.
That produciton came to halt once McLaurin lined up across from Quinyon Mitchell.
Per NextGenStats, Mitchell covered McLaurin on 20 of his 25 routes ran that night — Mitchell was targeted zero times on any of those snaps.

Mitchell never surrendered outside leverage, resulting in McLaurin’s lowest output of the season. After the game, McLaurin had high praise for the No. 22 overall pick:
“He’s a good corner. He doesn’t really play like a rookie.”
Prior to yesterday’s contest, FanDuel Sportsbook had Quinyon Mitchell at +1900 to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Mitchell now has the second-shortest odds for the award, priced at +320 as of this writing. The only player in front of his Rams pass-rusher Jared Verse, currently favored at -185.
Verse is having a stellar rookie season himself, tallying 4.5 sacks (leading all rookies), 14 QB hits, and 38 tackles (11 for loss) through ten games.
Mitchell would likely be the co-favroite if he was to able secure some of those dropped interceptions — it’s tough to convince voters with a zero next to that stat.
Opportunties for takeaways have been few and far between with quarterbacks refusing to throw Mitchell’s way. With a matchup against the Rams looming next week, an impressive outing against Cooper Kupp or Puka Nacua could go a long way.
As a proud owner of a Quinyon Mitchell DROY ticket, I hope he locks up every receiver he faces.
Placed last week — now down to +400 🤫
