WATCH: Cowboys played spoiler in wild finish against Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers
The Dallas Cowboys may be out of playoff contention, but that didn’t stop them from delivering one of the wildest plays of the year against Baker Mayfield and the Bucs on Sunday Night Football.
In a chaotic final two minutes, Dallas held on for a 26-24 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at AT&T Stadium, spoiling Tampa Bay’s postseason hopes—and my $10 parlay dreams—in the process.
With the Buccaneers trailing by two and just under two minutes left, Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay offense had the ball on their own 26-yard line. Facing a 1st-and-10, Mayfield tried to work his late-game magic, but the Cowboys’ defense had other plans.
Dallas dialed up a blitz, and cornerback Jourdan Lewis came untouched, barreling straight at Baker Mayfield. The veteran quarterback fought valiantly to stay upright, somehow managing to pitch the ball to running back Rachaad White before going down.
White battled for extra yardage, but Cowboys cornerback Daron Bland ripped the ball out of his hands for a forced fumble. Dallas recovered and ran out the clock to secure the win.

The wild turnover wasn’t even Mayfield’s first heartbreaker of the quarter. Just minutes earlier, Mayfield had connected on what initially appeared to be a deep touchdown pass to wide receiver Jalen McMillan. However, Jourdan Lewis swooped in, ripping the ball right out of McMillan’s hands for a stunning interception.

Baker Mayfield finished the game 31-of-43 for 303 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, but those late-game turnovers proved costly.
Just a brutal game for Tampa Bay, who really couldn’t afford to drop this game while still in the playoff hunt. The Buccaneers came in at 8-6, tied for the NFC South lead, with everything on the line.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys are completely eliminated, playing for absolutely nothing. How do you let that team give you trouble with two weeks left in the regular season?
And There Goes My $10 Parlay (Christmas Ruined)
Look, I get it. No one cares about my parlays, especially when I’m betting a measly $10 to win $22. But let me tell you, every cent lost hits a little harder during the holiday season.
I wasn’t asking for much—just for the Buccaneers to take care of business against a Cowboys team that’s already booking vacations to Cancun.
The Lions, Bengals, and Bills all did their part. It was right there. But Baker Mayfield and Tampa Bay decided to go full chaos mode instead.
Two turnovers in crunch time? A fumble ripped away on a routine play? My holiday budget is officially $10 lighter, and yes, it stings.
Say it ain’t so, Baker. Say it ain’t so!

Hopefully the Cowboys playing ‘spoiler’ is now over…
The Cowboys, already eliminated from playoff contention, had nothing to play for but pride. Still, their defense stepped up in a big way, with Lewis and Bland delivering game-saving plays.
Daron Bland’s forced fumble capped off a standout season for the Cowboys cornerback, who has emerged as one of the bright spots on a team that struggled to stay competitive in 2024.
For the Buccaneers, this loss could be the turning point in their playoff push. With two games left and the Falcons holding the tiebreaker, Tampa Bay needs to win out and hope Atlanta stumbles down the stretch.
As for Dallas, while their playoff hopes are long gone, they’ll look to carry this momentum into their final game of the season, where they can continue to play spoiler for another NFC contender in the Philadelphia Eagles.

Sunday’s game was a reminder that even in a lost season, teams like the Cowboys can still leave a mark. For Tampa Bay, the sting of this loss might be felt all the way through the offseason if it costs them a playoff berth.
And for me? This one’s going to sting through the holidays. Baker, buddy, you had one job. How do you lose to a team with nothing to play for? My $10 parlay may be small potatoes, but when it’s your $10, it feels like a fortune—especially when it’s so close to a win.
Baker, say it ain’t so.
