Saquon Barkley and the Eagles’ rushing attack are rewriting NFL History
If you’re not paying attention to what Saquon Barkley and the Eagles are doing on the ground this season, you’re missing out on a historic display of dominance.
Barkley’s jaw-dropping performance and the team’s relentless rushing attack are putting the rest of the league on notice—and rewriting the record books along the way.
Four Touchdown Runs of 60+ Yards:
When Saquon Barkley ripped off a 68-yard touchdown run Sunday, it wasn’t just a highlight—it was history in the making.
That was his fourth touchdown run of 60+ yards this season, tying an NFL record held by Jim Brown (1963) and Adrian Peterson (2012).
Saquon Barkley now has eight career TD runs of 60 or more yards. For context, that’s as many as he had in 76 games with the Giants—and he’s done it in just 15 games as an Eagle. Only three players in NFL history have more:
- Adrian Peterson (15)
- Jim Brown (9)
- Derrick Henry (9)
And, yes, Barkley already owns the Eagles’ career record for 60-yard touchdowns.
NFL Single Season Rushing Record
Through 15 games, Barkley has racked up 1,838 rushing yards, the ninth-highest total in NFL history at this point in a season. He’s also the only player ever to combine these marks through 15 games:
- 1,800+ rushing yards
- 5.9 yards per carry or higher
- 13 rushing touchdowns
Barkley is just 268 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards, set in 1984. With two games left, don’t bet against him.
Since Week 7…
Since Week 7, Barkley has been unstoppable, amassing 1,356 rushing yards while averaging 6.1 yards per carry. This level of production hasn’t been seen since Adrian Peterson’s MVP season in 2012, and only the greats—Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, and Eric Dickerson—have ever done it.
Eagles Rushing Attack
The Eagles aren’t just relying on Barkley. Their entire rushing attack has been on another level. With 211 rushing yards Sunday, the Eagles have amassed 2,087 rushing yards over their last 10 games.
To put that in perspective, it marks the first time the Eagles have averaged over 200 rushing yards in a 10-game span since 1950. The only other team to achieve this since 1980 would be the 2019 Ravens, powered by Lamar Jackson’s MVP campaign.
Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts: Elite Rushing Duo
Barkley’s two touchdowns Sunday brought his season total to 13, pairing him with Jalen Hurts (14 rushing touchdowns) as the first teammates in NFL history to each rush for 13+ touchdowns in the same season.
Note: Detroit’s David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs are close behind, each sitting at 12 rushing touchdowns with two games remaining. But for now, the Eagles stand alone.
A Historic Season for Saquon Barkley
What Saquon Barkley and the Eagles are doing this season isn’t just dominant—it’s historic. Barkley is putting together one of the most explosive and efficient seasons we’ve ever seen from a running back, while the team’s ground game as a whole is running circles around opponents.
The Eagles will close out the 2024 NFL regular season at home against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and at home against the New York Giants on January 5th. With two games left, Barkley is chasing Eric Dickerson’s record and the Eagles are solidifying their place as one of the greatest rushing teams in NFL history.
