Saquon Barkley becomes the 9th player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley made history today, becoming just the ninth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season. Barkley’s incredible performance against the Dallas Cowboys was the latest chapter in a season for the ages.

Barkley is running wild against the Cowboys, carrying the ball 31 times for 167 yards to bring his season total to 2,003 rushing yards. His historic moment came with 10:49 left in the game, when a 23-yard burst put him over the 2,000-yard mark.

Barkley is now part of an exclusive club, joining the likes of Eric Dickerson, Barry Sanders, and Adrian Peterson as one of just nine running backs to surpass 2,000 yards in a single season.

Here’s the full list of the 2,000-yard club:

Barkley still has a chance to climb higher on the list, as he sits just 101 yards shy of Dickerson’s all-time single-season record of 2,105 yards.

With the Eagles leading the Cowboys 41-7, Barkley’s day is likely done, and it’s uncertain how much he’ll play next week with Philadelphia having locked up the NFC East. While Barkley could take a run at Dickerson’s record, it may come down to whether the Eagles decide to prioritize health over history.

Regardless, Barkley’s 2024 season will go down as one of the greatest ever by a running back. From start to finish, he has carried the Eagles’ offense with an unmatched blend of power, vision, and explosiveness.

Saquon Barkley didn’t just make history today—he solidified himself as one of the most dynamic players in the NFL. Whether he ends the season atop the all-time rushing list or not, his name is now etched among the league’s greatest.
