Danny Briere can’t close, but Insiders have ‘Rent Due’
Danny Briere can’t close, but Insiders have ‘Rent Due’.
It’s that time of month again. We’re experiencing the hockey version of a menstrual cycle. It’s the time of month where insiders have rent to pay, so they’ll make some crap up in printed format in order to get the ad revenue rolling in.
It’s really not possible to do legitimate insider work for the Flyers, because there’s very little going on at any given time. Elliote Friedman wasn’t desperate to pay his rent, and as such, the Flyers didn’t even feature in his 32 Thoughts.
It’s 32 Thoughts because there’s 32 teams in the league, and yet he did multiple thoughts about the same teams because the Flyers simply aren’t interesting. That’s the natural consequence of having a general manager who can’t close.
However, most insiders did not take Friedman’s particular tact. Just this morning, we got another press-release from the organization masquerading as insider information.
Don’t worry, guys. He’s doing his due diligence and he’s having conversations, but we also already know the outcome of those conversations. Because we know the Flyers won’t be “overly active in selling off players” unless “the right offers present themselves.”
To which I say: what the hell is the right offer? How is the general manager of a hockey team this determined to fit a square peg into a round hole?
The right offer is the offer you get that will improve your hockey team now or in the future. It doesn’t have to improve your hockey team by a certain percentage amount to be viable. Just improve over and over again, and I promise you’ll eventually stop being a laughing stock.
Of course, just a month ago… cause rent was due in December as well… a seemingly different tact was taken.
Of course, this is the trick. Those 2 statements aren’t technically in conflict. And that’s intentional. See, you were supposed to get very excited by the framing of this gibberish in December. You were supposed to click on the article and share it with all of your friends.
And now we’re going to frame the same information in a slightly different way that throws some cold water on the hot stove. But don’t worry, this time next month? Rent will be due again, and Daniel will be “listening intently” and “fielding offers” on a myriad of players who should have been traded four score and seven years in the past.
I’m sick of the games. Because I know the game isn’t being played honestly. What is an example of “the right offer”?
A FIRST ROUND SELECTION
FOR SCOTT LAUGHTON
No, no, it’s worse. Actually, a first round selection is only enough inducement for Danny to “consider” making a trade that includes Scott Laughton going to another team.
And people wonder why I say Danny Briere can’t close…?
The excuse that people have already lined up is something like: “I don’t expect the trade deadline to be busy because the Flyers don’t have any expiring contracts.”
As ever, whose fault is that?
Or basically: Danny Briere using 8 year extensions to say he doesn’t have any expiring contracts and therefore can’t have an active trade deadline
This is all absurd. Danny Briere needs to cut the crap and behave like a real GM.
