Cam Newton says the Eagles can’t hang in the AFC while wearing an absolutely ridiculous hat on ESPN First Take

Cam Newton, dressed like a villain from a Disney movie, hopped on ESPN First Take today and attempted to deliver a statement that the Philadelphia Eagles and more specifically, Jalen Hurts “can’t hang” with AFC opponents, which is why the Chiefs will win Super Bowl LIX.

Wild, right? I know. Respectfully, Mr. Newton, how can you make such a statement, dressed like that, while being completely wrong? It literally takes two seconds to find the numbers behind the claim and really, if you watched at least four Eagles games this year, you’d know how wildly incorrect you are in saying that Philly can’t hang with AFC teams.

Basically, Cam Newton is claiming that if the Eagles were in the AFC, they wouldn’t have gotten to the Super Bowl while also stating that all “game-changers” in today’s NFL are in the AFC as opposed to the NFC.

Oof.

Cam Newton’s ridiculous claim about the Eagles

If you couldn’t watch the clip because Cam Newton is dressed like an idiot and you’re too distracted to pay attention. I get it. I suggest listening with the eyes closed and maybe then, you’ll be able to comprehend the point that Newton is foolishly attempting to make.

Cam Newton hasn’t checked the numbers (or watched football) in quite some time. Jalen Hurts is 15-4 against AFC teams in his career. That’s good for a .789 win percentage against team’s that have “game-changers.”

It’s also better than most AFC quarterbacks could ever even dream of having but I digress.

If that doesn’t do it for you, then maybe recency bias can give us a more-accurate breakdown of Hurts and the Eagles’ success against AFC opponents. Let’s look at what happened this year when Hurts and company faced the AFC North.

  • Steelers: 27-13. Hurts drops 335 total yards and 3 total touchdowns
  • Ravens: 24-19. Hurts led a game-winning drive
  • Browns: 20-16. Another day, another 2 TD’s and 250+ yards
  • Bengals: 37-17. Just under 300 total yards and 4 TD’s

Well shit. That certainly goes against what Thackery Earwicket Cam Newton was saying now doesn’t it? Of course it does. Newton spent more time working on his outfit than actually prepping for his First Take appearance. Go figure.

Next time, Cam, you should spend less time thinking about how to make fashion statements and more time watching the actual football being played.
