Phillies Farm System—When will the top prospects arrive to The Show?
The Phillies took a different approach this offseason. Instead of blowing up the farm system for a quick fix, they doubled down on their homegrown talent. It’s a big vote of confidence in their top prospects, and a clear sign they expect their next wave of talent to help sustain this roster as it ages.
The plan is pretty straightforward. Let the young guys marinate in the minors and see if they can fill key roles in the coming years. The front office is banking on a patient approach, rather than panic-trading for instant gratification.
Phillies invite 23 non-roster players to MLB Spring Training
Will it work? That remains to be seen. Personally, I’m in the “No Prospect is Untouchable” camp the majority of the time with a few exceptions to that mindset, specifically when it comes to Andrew Painter and Aidan Miller, but with that in mind, let’s breakdown the Phillies top prospects and the projected timeline to be a real consideration for a call-up to The Show.
1. Andrew Painter, SP – ETA: 2025
If everything goes right, Andrew Painter could be a game-changer for the Phillies’ rotation. The 6-foot-7 righty was recently ranked the No. 8 prospect in baseball and showed off his stuff in the Arizona Fall League, flashing the same electric arm that made him a near-lock to debut in 2023 before Tommy John surgery derailed him.
The plan? Ease him in during the spring, ramp him up in the summer, and—if all goes well—have him in South Philly by midseason. If he stays healthy, Painter could be the future ace of the Phillies’ organization and the fact that he’s been deemed untouchable over the past three years shows us that the organization believes that’s exactly what will happen.
2. Aidan Miller, SS/3B – ETA: 2027
Miller is the Phillies’ top hitting prospect and sits at No. 27 on MLB Pipeline’s list. He’s got real power and a solid approach at the plate, but he’s still a work in progress. At 20 years old, he’ll likely spend this season in Double-A before making the jump to Triple-A next year.
By 2027, things could get interesting.
Alec Bohm’s contract is up, and the Phillies could shift Trea Turner to third to make room for Miller at shortstop. He’s got the bat to be an everyday big-league contributor—now he just needs the reps.
3. Moisés Chace, SP – ETA: 2026
Chace is a bit of a wild card. He’s got electric stuff and the potential to be a weapon out of the bullpen, but at just 21, he’ll need at least another season to refine his command. He could be a rotation candidate, but his fastball-slider combo might make him a better fit in the ‘pen.
4. Jean Cabrera, SP – ETA: 2026
Cabrera flew under the radar last season, but he’s got some real intrigue. The 23-year-old posted a 3.80 ERA across Single-A and Double-A and has a heavy sinker that keeps hitters off balance. If he continues to improve his control, he could be in the mix for a back-end rotation spot in 2026.
5. Eduardo Tait, C – ETA: 2028
Tait is the best catching prospect in the Phillies’ system, but he’s still years away. At just 18, he’s raw but exciting. He showed flashes of power in the Florida State League and held his own against older competition. He’s not necessarily J.T. Realmuto’s heir apparent, but if everything clicks, he could be a franchise catcher down the road.
6. Aroon Escobar, 2B – ETA: 2028
Escobar is a pure hitter. The 20-year-old has an advanced feel for contact, but scouts want to see more power before anointing him as an everyday big leaguer. He’ll spend this year in High-A, working on adding some pop to his bat while refining his defense.
7. Justin Crawford, OF – ETA: 2026
Crawford, the son of former MLB speedster Carl Crawford, has a tantalizing skill set. He’s fast, plays solid defense, and has shown an ability to hit for average. In his first taste of Double-A last year, he hit .333 with 26 RBI and 15 stolen bases over 40 games.
The Phillies’ outfield depth is questionable, so a strong season in the minors could put him on the fast track to Citizens Bank Park.
8. Alex McFarlane, RP – ETA: 2025
McFarlane is an intriguing bullpen piece. He started his minor league career as a starter, but after Tommy John surgery, the Phillies are eyeing him as a potential late-inning reliever. If he adapts well to the bullpen this season, he could be in the mix for high-leverage innings by late summer.
9. Griffin Burkholder, OF – ETA: 2029
The Phillies’ second-round pick last year is a pure upside play. He’s only had two professional at-bats, but the front office likes his speed and athleticism. He’s a long-term project, but he’s one to watch as he develops.
10. Dante Nori, OF – ETA: 2028
Nori was last year’s first-round pick, and while he doesn’t project as a slugger, he’s got plenty of speed and defensive ability. He’s less of a project than Burkholder but still has a long way to go before he’s ready for the big leagues.
Top 3 Phillies Prospects to Watch This Season:
1. Andrew Painter, RHP – ETA: 2025
The Phillies have been waiting for Painter’s debut for what feels like forever, and 2025 could finally be the year. He’s got the stuff of a future ace, and if he stays healthy, he could be a huge part of the rotation’s future.
2. Aidan Miller, SS/3B – ETA: 2027
Miller’s bat has real potential, and if he keeps progressing, he could be a staple in the Phillies’ infield for years. He’s got power, patience, and a solid glove—he just needs time.
3. Eduardo Tait, C – ETA: 2028
It’s hard to project an 18-year-old catcher, but Tait’s raw power and potential make him a fascinating prospect. If he sticks behind the plate, he could become a real difference-maker.
The Phillies are rolling the dice on their farm system, betting that their top prospects can help sustain their current core. If even a few of these guys hit, the Phils could have their next wave of homegrown stars on the way. For now, the waiting game begins.
