Kellen Moore Saints Head Coach Eagles Super Bowl Opening Night

Kellen Moore remains focused on Super Bowl amid New Orleans Saints head coaching rumors

The Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator Kellen Moore found himself in an unusual position at Super Bowl Opening Night—fielding questions about a job he doesn’t even have yet while preparing for the biggest game of his career.

With the New Orleans Saints as the last team standing in the NFL’s head coaching carousel, all eyes are on Kellen Moore as their top remaining candidate. The only thing stopping them from hiring him right now? He’s busy trying to win a Super Bowl.

“It’s obviously been a good process,” Moore said of his preliminary meetings with Saints general manager Mickey Loomis and team officials in Philadelphia last week.

“Having an opportunity to meet with Mickey and their leadership group has been great, and it’s set up in a way that allows us to focus on this game and we’ll see what happens after that.”

Sounds like someone who knows they’ve got a good shot at landing the gig once the Super Bowl dust settles.

Kellen Moore’s Rise in Philly and What He’d Bring to the Saints

Kellen Moore, a former backup QB turned play-caller, has quickly ascended the coaching ranks. After working with Dak Prescott in Dallas, he landed in Philly this season, where he orchestrated one of the NFL’s most dominant rushing attacks.

📈 Eagles Offensive Rankings in 2024
🏆 8th in total offense (367.2 YPG)
🏆 2nd in rushing offense (179.3 YPG)
29th in passing offense (187.9 YPG)

That run-heavy approach was centered around Saquon Barkley, who became just the ninth running back in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. Moore built the offense around his players, something he emphasized when asked about his coaching philosophy:

“You have certain things that you have strong feelings about from a coaching perspective. But I think it’s important to do what your players do best.”

That adaptability would be key in New Orleans, where Alvin Kamara remains the focal point and Derek Carr is still looking to find consistency. Moore even has a history with Carr—the two played against each other in college when Moore was at Boise State and Carr was at Fresno State.

Eagles Players See Kellen Moore as a Future Head Coach

With so much speculation about his future, Moore’s Eagles players weren’t shocked to see him on the Saints’ radar.

“He’s the worst coordinator I’ve ever had,” Eagles left tackle Jordan Mailata joked before cracking a smile. “Kellen’s been the best. He’s done a great job setting up plays, explaining the schemes and the whys behind certain motions, formations. It’s a magical thing. It’s no wonder why he’s a finalist to be a head coach here.”

Kellen Moore obviously isn’t confirming anything yet, and the Saints can’t hire him until the Super Bowl is over. But if he walks away from Sunday with a Lombardi Trophy and a job offer in New Orleans waiting for him, it’ll be a week to remember.

For now, though, he’s keeping it simple:

“Pure focus is on Sunday,” Moore said. “I don’t have to worry about a single thing except this opportunity.”
