Report: Packers submit proposal to ban the Eagles’ signature ‘Tush Push’
The Philadelphia Eagles’ signature “Tush Push” play remains a hot topic in the NFL — both for its effectiveness and the controversy surrounding it.
While the league opted not to ban it last offseason, a new challenge to the play has emerged. According to NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent, at least one team has submitted a proposal to outlaw it for the 2025 season.
That team is the Green Bay Packers, who were eliminated by the Eagles in the NFC Wild Card round this past January.

Team president and CEO Mark Murphy even criticized it publicly in the lead-up to the Super Bowl.
Previously, Vincent argued that there wasn’t enough justification to ban the maneuver, though the league did tweak the rules by requiring any “pushers” to start at least a yard behind the quarterback.
Despite this, the play remained a key weapon in the Eagles’ arsenal, helping them power through their Super Bowl-winning season.
The “Tush Push” relies on teammates — typically a running back — physically shoving the quarterback forward on a sneak attempt.
While undeniably effective, boasting a nearly 90% success rate, its physical nature and potential injury risks have fueled debate since Philadelphia popularized it in 2022.
During Super Bowl LIX, the Eagles leaned on the play once again, using it to punch in their first touchdown en route to a dominant 40-22 victory over the Chiefs.
Now, the question is whether the Packers’ proposal will gain enough traction to force another rule change — or even bring an end to one of the most divisive plays in modern football.
