Cavs’ Darius Garland disses fan… right before he drills $10K half court shot; reminiscent of Michael Jordan in the 1988 NBA Playoffs
While Philadelphia basketball continues to crash and burn right before our eyes, last night in Cleveland was absolutely electric. The Cavs were up 93-88 against the Grizzlies heading into the fourth quarter as fans to court to attempt a half court shot for $10,000.
Five fans laid bricks on their attempts before one hero wearing a vintage LeBron James jersey stepped up like it was Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Not everyone had faith in the fan, specifically Cavs’ point guard Darius Garland, who had a front row seat to the event.
Garland stood behind the contestants, clearly unimpressed when the last fan tried to hit a LeBron-style chalk toss before taking his shot. The Cavs guard rolled his eyes, probably cracking jokes with the security staff about how this was about to be an all-time disaster.

And then—swish. The fan buried the $10,000 half court shot like he was born for the moment, leaving Garland and the entire arena in absolute disbelief. One second, he’s the butt of the joke. The next, he’s walking off like Michael Jordan after dropping 50 points in Game 1 of the Bulls vs. Cavs playoff series way back in 1988.
Michael Jordan Starts The 1988 Playoffs With a 50 Piece! 🐐 | ECR1 Game 1 vs Cavs
Why am I bringing up Michael Jordan? Well, LeBron James has played 718 more games than Michael Jordan but still trails the true GOAT by…
- 2 Championships
- 2 Finals MVPs
- 1 MVP
- 9 Scoring Titles
- 3 Steals Titles
- 3 All-Defensive Teams
- 0 DPOY
Anyways, Garland didn’t seem to mind being proven wrong. The two-time All-Star was all smiles, celebrating with Tristan Thompson as the fan’s shot found the net. There was another fan who drained a half court shot last night in Cleveland, and obviously Garland and Thompson were loving that too.
