Flyers Penguins 6-1

Flyers destroy Penguins in 6-1 rout, have now scored 12 goals in two games back from the break

The Flyers didn’t just beat the Penguins on Tuesday night—they demolished them. A 6-1 beatdown at the Wells Fargo Center sent the fans home happy and kept Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference playoff conversation.

Noah Cates Line Catches Fire

This was Noah Cates’ line’s night, plain and simple. Bobby Brink put up four points (1G, 3A), while Cates (2G, 1A) and Tyson Foerster (1G, 2A) each had three points.

The trio broke the game open in the second period with two goals in 10 seconds, sending the Wells Fargo Center into a frenzy.

That’s the kind of depth this roster needs if they’re going to claw their way into the playoff picture. They’ve now won three straight games and continue to chip away at the standings.

The Flyers haven’t won more than three straight in over a year, so now would be the perfect time to change that, right?

Torts Ain’t Giving Up

The O&B came into Tuesday five points back of a wild-card spot, but with six teams ahead of them, every win is crucial. Torts backed up his words, rolling out a relentless, aggressive attack that suffocated the Penguins’ stars. The Flyers outshot Pittsburgh 38-24 and never let up, showing the kind of urgency you need in must-win hockey.

Samuel Ersson Stays Locked In

If they do make a push for the playoffs, Samuel Ersson is going to be a huge reason why. The 25-year-old netminder was rock solid again, stopping 23 of 24 shots to continue his excellent post-holiday run.

Since Christmas, Ersson is 11-4-1 with a 2.23 GAA and .919 SV%.

If Ersson keeps playing like this, the Flyers are going to make things very interesting down the stretch.

Matvei Michkov hits 40-point mark

Matvei Michkov hit the 40-point mark with an assist on Rasmus Ristolainen’s opening goal, then added another helper on Owen Tippett’s third-period tally. The kid keeps racking up points, and he’s only getting better. We are seeing the future develop right before their eyes, and it’s looking pretty damn good.

Looking Ahead

Philly and the Pens’ don’t have to wait long for Round 4—they’re back at it Thursday night in Pittsburgh (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN+, Hulu).

Philadelphia has a real chance to sweep this mini-series and put the rest of the East on notice. Are they still a long shot for the playoffs? Maybe. But right now, they’re playing like a team that refuses to go away.
