Another game, another soul-crushing L for the Sixers. That’s eight straight losses, 10 in their last 11, and a 20-37 record that has them firmly planted in 12th place in the East. The Bulls, who hold the final play-in spot, are two and a half games ahead—but honestly, does it even matter?

Despite what the Sixers’ front office is telling everyone, the conversation amongst what’s left of the fanbase has completely shifted. It’s not about making the playoffs anymore—it’s about making sure this disaster of a season isn’t completely wasted.

The good news is that there is in fact a light at the end of the tunnel, and it comes in the form of Cooper Flagg. I know it’s a long shot and a top 6 pick is far from guaranteed, but when the Sixers continue to remain oblivious to reality while they crash and burn on the hardwood every night, at the very least you have to understand that fans are looking for any signs of hope.

This fanbase is also banking on the idea that Adam Silver and the NBA will somehow allow them to win the lottery and get the first overall pick in the draft, which we all know that’s a fever dream in itself.

According to Tankathon, the Sixers have a 37 percent chance of getting a top-4 pick in the draft, and a 9 percent chance of winning the lottery. The Hornets, Wizards, and Utah Jazz currently each have the highest chance at 14 percent.

Translation: The Sixers aren’t bad enough…yet.

Right now, Philly has the sixth-worst record in the league, which means their top-six protected pick is still in play, but if they start accidentally winning games that pick goes straight to Oklahoma City, and this season becomes an all-time disaster.

This team needs to embrace the tank like the Eagles did in 2020 when they pulled Jalen Hurts for Nate Sudfeld to lock in the DeVonta Smith pick. That move won them a Super Bowl three years later. If the Sixers aren’t thinking the same way right now, they’re doing it wrong.

The Sixers will play the Warriors on Saturday after suffering one of the worst losses of the season to them earlier this year. They are currently on a nine-game losing streak and sit 2.5 games ahead of Toronto in 12th place in the Eastern Conference.
