Von Miller set to hit free agency after being released by the Buffalo Bills
Another big name just hit the NFL free agency market. Von Miller, a two-time Super Bowl champion and former Super Bowl MVP, is being released by the Buffalo Bills, per multiple reports.
The move clears up cap space for Buffalo, as Von Miller was set to make $17.5 million in 2025 with no guaranteed money left on his deal.

What’s Left in the Tank?
Von Miller is no longer the dominant force he was with the Broncos and Rams, but he showed last season that he still has something left in the tank, recording 6 sacks in 13 games after a rough, injury-riddled 2023 campaign.
At 36 years old, he’s not a long-term answer, but as a rotational pass-rusher, he could still make an impact for the right team. Let’s just get ahead of it now and say that the Philadelphia Eagles are NOT that team.
Would Howie Roseman and the Eagles actually go after Von Miller?
I have serious doubts that will be the case. Von Miller should just hang it up and put an end to his Hall of Fame career but it’s almost a guarantee that one team will offer him something for at least another season, right?
On paper, Howie Roseman is always in the mix for an aging pass-rusher if the price is right. But there are a few things working against Miller in this case:
- The Eagles don’t typically invest big money in aging defensive players. Sure, Brandon Graham hung around, but that’s a homegrown guy with deep ties to the franchise.
- Miller is an outsider, and Philly has a bunch of guys already on the roster, and a few others in free agency that they should focus on for next season.
- Miller’s off-field issues are concerning. The guy was suspended last season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, and his alleged domestic violence incident is about as bad as it gets. That’s an immediate disqualifier for a lot of teams, and it should be one for the Eagles too.
- His production has declined. The numbers weren’t terrible in 2024, but Miller is far from the elite pass-rusher he once was. If Philly is adding another pass-rusher, they need someone younger and more durable.
But hey, Lane Johnson seems open to it, so who knows?
Despite all that, Lane Johnson is already stirring the pot on social media.

Could he just be messing around? Maybe. But players often know things before the rest of us do, and if Johnson is casually endorsing the move, maybe the Eagles’ front office is at least thinking about it.
Final Verdict on Von Miller? Hard Pass.
Von Miller is a legend. He’s one of the best pass-rushers of his era and a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Right now, he’s just not the right fit for the Eagles—on or off the field.
There are better, less problematic ways to spend money this offseason, and the Eagles should look elsewhere to boost their pass rush.
