Zach Ertz re-signs with Commanders: Philly legend, NFC East enemy
There’s no denying Zach Ertz’s legacy in Philadelphia. He’s an Eagles legend, a Super Bowl LII hero, and the guy who made the game-winning touchdown catch to deliver the city’s first Lombardi Trophy. He’ll always have a spot in the hearts of Philly fans.
Enemy of the State: Zach Ertz
Ertz just re-signed with Washington on a one-year deal worth up to $9 million, keeping him in the division with the only team that even remotely looks like they could challenge the Eagles for NFC East supremacy in 2025.

At 34 years old, Ertz has proven he still has something left in the tank after posting 66 catches, 654 yards, and seven touchdowns last season. He was a go-to security blanket for rookie QB Jayden Daniels, and now he’s coming back to build on that chemistry.
Why This Move Matters for the NFC East
Washington is quietly building something. They stunned the NFL last season, making it all the way to the NFC Championship Game, and they’ve been aggressive this offseason:
- Traded for Deebo Samuel
- Retained key defensive pieces
- Re-signed Zach Ertz
From Super Bowl Hero to NFC East Foe
Look, Ertz wasn’t supposed to be the villain in this rivalry. If anything, Cowboys-turned-Commanders guys like Dak Prescott or even Micah Parsons are the ones who should be drawing our collective ire.
But now, with Washington loading up and Ertz being a key part of their offense, it’s fair to say he’s officially crossed over to the dark side.
There’s no hatred here—just business. But let’s not pretend we won’t be hoping for a James Bradberry pick-six off an Ertz target when the Eagles and Commanders clash next season.
Philly will always love Ertz for what he did on Broad Street but now he’s just another NFC East problem the Eagles will have to handle.
