Darius Slay agrees to a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, ending run with the Eagles
Darius Slay will likely finish his career in Pittsburgh, as the veteran cornerback agreed to a deal with the Steelers on Monday, per Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz. This move comes after the Eagles cut him earlier in the offseason in a salary-cap maneuver.
The writing was on the wall for Darius Slay when the Eagles drafted Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean last year. Both thrived in their rookie seasons, making the aging Slay expendable despite still playing at a high level.

The cap situation forced Philly’s hand as well. With key free agents like Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, Zack Baun, and Mekhi Becton needing new deals, the Eagles had to clear space. Cutting Slay saved $4.3 million, and parting ways with James Bradberry added another $2.1 million in relief.
Still, bringing back Slay would have solidified the Eagles’ secondary, keeping DeJean in the slot and maintaining continuity in a championship-level defense. Instead, Philly now has a new hole to fill at cornerback, likely through free agency or the draft.
Steelers Get a Proven Veteran in Darius Slay
For Pittsburgh, this is a fantastic move. The Steelers’ secondary struggled last season, and adding a six-time Pro Bowler like Slay instantly bolsters their defensive backfield.
While 2025 could be Darius Slay’s farewell tour, he’s still playing at a high level and should help stabilize the Steelers’ pass defense as they look to contend in the AFC North.
The Eagles’ youth movement continues, but letting Slay walk still stings. He was a leader, a playmaker, and a key piece in the Super Bowl run. Pittsburgh is getting a veteran who can still contribute, while the Eagles now have another offseason need to address.
Would it have been nice to see Darius Slay retire in Philly? Absolutely. But in the NFL, business always comes first.
