NBC Sports Philly trolls Phillies fans with a fake P00P scorebug during Spring Training game against the Pirates

Looks like NBC Sports Philly caught wind of the fan’s backlash after they rolled out a new scorebug for Phillies’ Spring Training games.

If you’ve been watching Phillies Spring Training broadcasts, you know exactly what I’m talking about. The scorebugs NBC Sports Philadelphia has been rolling out look like they were designed in Microsoft Paint—just plain text and numbers, no flair, no personality, nothing.

NBC Sports Philly debuts a new score bug for Phillies broadcasts and naturally, fans are already judging it >>

It’s like we were watching a middle school PowerPoint presentation on baseball fundamentals.

NBC Sports Philly with an Phillies Updated Scorebug:

Andrew Painter takes next step as Phillies’ prospects shine in Spring Breakout win

When I saw an actual Pirates logo on the screen during the Phillies-Pirates game on Friday, it was a relief. It felt like a return to civilization and other Phillies fans obviously pointed out that the P00P game was back on our televisions.

The Return of the P00P Game?

For the uninitiated, the P00P game happens when the scoreboard aligns in such a way that the Pirates (PIT) and Phillies (PHI) are both scoreless, creating the sacred chyron: P00P.

It’s a rare occurrence which some are calling a celestial event or a glitch in the baseball matrix that we as a society must cherish. Well, NBCSP kind of brought it back on Friday with a vertical rendition of the P00P.

Worse yet, the inning number was jammed in between the two zeroes along with a poorly placed GMC logo which has fans questioning whether or not this actually counts as a P00P return to the broadcast.

I’m going to have to say no.

The purists will say absolutely not and I would have to agree.

Of course GMC had to ruin it with their pointless ad plug. The P00P must be uninterrupted, unblemished, a clean P-0-0-P sequence across the chyron. No ads. No inning numbers.

Just pure, unfiltered P00P.

Others will argue that P00P must evolve with the times—that as long as the letters and numbers are there, it still counts. Do not listen to these people. They are bastardizing the greatness of what we once shared together and should not be taken seriously.

Honestly, I’m just happy we’re getting real logos again. I know it’s a simple thought but for the life of me, I can’t figure out why NBC Sports Philadelphia changed it up in the first place. This is a step in the right direction but in no way is this a return to normalcy. We need is a P00P game in the regular season, and the baseball world will be right again.
