Phillies beat shake-up at the Inky: Scott Lauber and Lochlahn March take over, Alex Coffey moves to features

The Philadelphia Inquirer just reshuffled its Phillies coverage team, and honestly, it looks like a solid move all around. Scott Lauber and Lochlahn March will now handle the day-to-day Phillies beat while Alex Coffey shifts to feature writing, where she has always done her best work.

Mike Sielski, Marcus Hayes, and David Murphy remain the columnist trio covering the team. I think we’re all in agreement that this team (outside of Murphy) should be exiled to Mars but at the very least, Alex Coffey now joins them to even out the good with the bad.

Parting Words from Alex Coffey:

Smart Adjustments Across the Board from The Inquirer

Again, Alex Coffey’s best writing has always come in her feature work, so moving her into that full-time role just makes sense. Pairing her with Matt Breen and others should give the Inquirer a strong long-form storytelling group, which in my humble opinion, is something that has been lacking in Philly sports coverage.

Say hello to Lochlahn March

Meanwhile, Lochlahn March steps into a full-time beat role, a newer name for Phillies fans but someone who has been covering a little bit of everything for the paper.

Lochlahn March is a baller

Lots of H’s in that name and I’m not sure how to actually pronounce it but I can say that I’ve been reading what Lochlahn March has been writing and she’s great.

Looking forward to more as we inch closer to Opening Day. And for Scott Lauber, of course he’s a veteran and will continue to bring steady, reliable coverage.

Phillies Got Themselves a Well-Balanced Coverage Team

The Phillies are entering another high-expectation season, and having a strong beat team matters. It’s a well-rounded mix that should serve Phillies fans well throughout the season. With Opening Day right around the corner, this new crew is about to get to work.
