Report: John Kruk signs contract extension with NBC Sports Philadelphia
Looks like Philadelphia has at least four more years of John Kruk talking about hoagies, old-school baseball fights, and the time he probably pulled a hammy walking up the Citizens Bank Park steps.
According to reports, NBC Sports Philadelphia locked up Kruk on a four-year deal, meaning the Phillies legend and broadcasting wildcard isn’t leaving the booth anytime soon.
Thank God for that.
In a world where half of baseball broadcasting feels sanitized and corporate, Kruk is the exact opposite. He’s Philly’s drunk uncle with a mic — opinionated, hilarious, and unapologetically old-school. He’s not trying to impress you with analytics. He’s trying to figure out what inning it is and whether the concession stand has hot dogs.
Phillies roster takes shape with final cuts and key injury news
John Kruk’s staying power goes beyond just the nostalgia.
Kruk was a key piece of the 1993 team that scratched and clawed its way to the World Series with mullets, mustaches, and Marlboros. Now he’s in the booth telling stories about that team, yelling about pitch clocks, and making Tom McCarthy laugh mid-inning.
And let’s not gloss over the fact that Kruk said he wants to stick around as long as Bryce Harper’s 13-year deal — meaning he’s already eyeing 2032. That’s elite work ethic for a guy who once quit an at-bat mid-count to go eat ribs in the clubhouse (allegedly).
Kruk’s paired up with a solid rotation of co-analysts — Ruben Amaro Jr. and Ben Davis — but John Kruk is the main event. The others are there for balance. Kruk’s there to say whatever comes to mind and hope it makes sense by the seventh inning.
So here’s to more Kruk. More weird stories. More rants about bunting. Let’s just hope NBC Sports Philadelphia lets John Kruk call the games from a La-Z-Boy this year.
