Opening Day and the Los Angeles Angels already experienced a Mike Trout injury scare

One game into the 2025 MLB season and the Los Angeles Angels are already playing with fire — and by fire, I mean Mike Trout’s health, which has been nothing more than a complete disaster over the last several years.

Naturally, in his very first at-bat of the year, Mike Trout got drilled on the left hand by a pitch.

Thankfully, Trout stayed in the game. He flew out in his next at-bat. But if you’ve been paying attention, it’s hard to think outside of this being the exact sort of thing that usually leads to a few days off, an MRI “just to be safe,” and next thing you know, it’s June and he’s still “progressing nicely” in Arizona.

Mike Trout was well on his way to being the greatest baseball player on planet earth until Shohei Ohtani showed up and when healthy, can still be an impact player. Obviously, the main concern with Trout is his ability to stay healthy which is perfectly reasonable since he has been consistently sidelined for large chunks of the regular season

First inning. Opening Day. Hit by Pitch. That’s wild for the guy who hasn’t played more than 140 games in a season since 2018, and has more trips to the ER than actual employees at the hospital. You could hear the collective groan from Anaheim to New Jersey.

I know it’s hard to even remember what Mike Trout was doing because him actually playing baseball has been so inconsistent but again, he was on pace to become the greatest baseball player to ever step foot in planet earth.

A lot of people talk shit on Mike Trout but I’m definitely not one of them and will continue to push the “Fishing for Trout” agenda here in Philadelphia until he officially hangs up the cleats.

For the casuals, Major League Baseball is better with a healthy Mike Trout. The Angeles avoided disaster on Opening Day. Only 161 games left to go.
