Shocking New Kevin Durant Trade Dark Horse Just Emerged—And It Could Break the NBA
If the Sixers can’t get Kevin Durant, the Spurs might just be my next pick. And yeah, I know—I should probably be ashamed to admit that. My boss, Drew Smith, the owner of The Liberty Line, would likely kick me off the site for even entertaining the idea of being excited about the Spurs. But here I am, completely unable to contain myself.
For some context here, we have been working to expand this sports blog site, and one our brands, which I am responsible for, consists of general basketball coverage. So, obviously that would entail expanding our merchandise to teams and players outside of Philadelphia. With that said, I recently pitched this super cool “Area 51” Spurs t-shirt concept to be one of our first designs to go live on our store.
You catching my drift here? Anyways, let’s get back on track. We’ve got some wild rumors that surfaced the NBA social media space today.
Kevin Durant linked to the Spurs…
Spurs' Devin Vassell has come up in early offseason trade conversations with league personnel.
— Brett Siegel (@BrettSiegelNBA) March 28, 2025
After just trading for De'Aaron Fox, the Spurs will continue to be aggressive in their pursuit of more talent around Victor Wembanyama.
Could this lead them to Kevin Durant? https://t.co/XTWlkO4Mj4
According to man himself, Mr. Siegel, the Spurs are creeping into the Kevin Durant trade sweepstakes. Apparently, San Antonio is gearing up for a major offseason push, and multiple league sources have already hinted at their interest in the two-time NBA champ. Devin Vassell’s name has been tossed around as a potential trade piece, and when you start looking at the Spurs’ stash of assets, things start getting very interesting.
Durant, now 36, is almost certainly going to be on the move this summer. The Suns are a disaster—stuck at the No. 11 seed with no real future—and it’s only a matter of time before they hit the reset button. The Spurs were already one of six teams mentioned in the KD rumors earlier this month, but after their blockbuster trade for De’Aaron Fox at the deadline, they didn’t seem like a likely landing spot.
Yet, here we are.
The Thought of KD & Wemby Is Terrifying
Listen, I love my Sixers, and if there’s any way to get Durant to Philly, Daryl Morey better be on the phone yesterday. But if that ship sails? The idea of him teaming up with Wembanyama is pure basketball porn.
Why the Sixers Should Heavily Consider the Suns’ Asking Price for Kevin Durant >>
Wemby is already the most unique talent we’ve ever seen—7’4” with guard skills, elite defense, and limitless upside. Now throw in Kevin Durant, one of the greatest scorers in NBA history, and tell me how anyone is supposed to stop that? It would be an absolute nightmare for the rest of the league.
I should hate this. I should be rooting against it. But I can’t. I want to see it.
Drew, if you’re reading this, please don’t fire me.
