Bryce Harper and Trea Turner clutch up, Phillies beat the Braves 4-3
For all the talk about slow starts and missed chances, Bryce Harper and Trea Turner picked the perfect time to clutch up down in Atlanta, powering the Phillies to a 4-3 comeback win.
The Phillies have a major bullpen problem and everyone is somewhat glancing over it because they also have an outfield depth problem and a third and second base problem. Just great, right? We’ll leave it at that for now, I’m trying to remain positive about the longevity and depth of this team while we’re winning ball games – especially against the Atlanta Braves.
After a quiet few games, Harper unloaded in the seventh inning with a two-run missile to right, giving the Phils a 3–2 lead and silencing the Atlanta crowd.

It was Harper’s first regular-season homer against the Braves since September 2023, which seems insane, but that’s just baseball for the game’s Greatest Showman.
Of course, the Braves had a response ready— The Nightmare of Austin Riley continued as he answered with a solo shot of his own in the bottom half to tie it back up.
Who was on the mound? Well, Taijuan Walker did his job, tossing 4.2 innings, allowing zero runs with three walks and five punch outs.
The bullpen was a mess.
Jose Ruiz continues to be a failed experiment, allowing two runs and walking two in a disastrous 1.1 inning appearance. Joe Ross attempted to bail him out and instead, suffered a similar fat, allowing two hits and another run to give the Braves a 3-2 advantage in the seventh.
That set the stage for Trea Turner, who’s been grinding to find his power stroke early in the season. He finally found it in the ninth, launching his first homer of the year into the left-field seats to give the Phillies the lead for good.

José Alvarado handled the late innings like a pro, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless and locking down the win with some high-octane stuff and plenty of emotion.

Next up: The series finale with a chance to take two of three in Atlanta.
