Eagles mock trade has them landing superstar edge rusher ahead of 2025 NFL Draft, following his cryptic Instagram post

Let’s make one thing clear: if there’s any GM in the league capable of turning smoke into fire, it’s Howie Roseman. This man could talk Elon Musk into buying out a long snapper’s contract. He got rid of Carson Wentz, tricked the Titans into giving up A.J. Brown, and somehow pays top-tier talent without breaking the bank.

And now, there’s chatter that the Eagles—yes, our Birds—have the third-best odds to land Watt in a potential trade. +500, trailing only the Patriots and Seahawks. Look, I’m not saying it’s likely… but I’m also not putting anything past Howie. The man’s a magician with a trade phone.

All this was sparked by one of those classic, cryptic Instagram posts that you see from athletes from time to time that sends fans into an absolute frenzy.

Watt’s current deal is worth $112 million, so yeah—this wouldn’t be some bargain-bin pick-up. You’d need to fork over serious draft capital and likely extend his contract. But let’s not pretend the Eagles don’t have the ammo. They’ve got picks, cap flexibility, and a gaping need for an elite pass rusher post-Haason Reddick and Bryce Huff (who, let’s be honest, was a massive disappointment in Year 1 of that $51 million deal).

I’m not sure exactly what the trade would look like but a special shoutout to our own here at TheLibertyLine, Brian Cass for bringing this mock trade to my attention earlier today.

Of course, the Steelers would have to actually pick up the phone, and that’s where things get murky. Watt is still the heart and soul of that defense. Trading him would be like the Eagles shipping out Jason Kelce in his prime—it just doesn’t happen. Still, the vibes are weird in Pittsburgh right now, and Watt’s peace-sign post didn’t exactly scream “everything’s fine.”

Contract negotiations reportedly aren’t going smoothly, and if things go off the rails, you better believe Howie will be lurking, ready to pounce, and the Eagles will actually have to call up a blitz, which is something they didn’t have to do in the Super Bowl because the defensive line absolutely feasted on that Chiefs O-line and Patrick Mahomes.

So, while this feels entirely like a pipedream, the NFL draft is a little over a week away and the rumor mill is just now starting to heat up. And with Howie Roseman with all this ammunition at his disposal, I wouldn’t rule anything out.
