Brandon Marsh 10-Day Injured List

Roster Moves: Phillies send Brandon Marsh to IL with Hamstring Strain, recall Cal Stevenson from Lehigh Valley

Welp. The Phillies announced Sunday that Brandon Marsh has been placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 17) with a right hamstring strain.

That means the 0-for-April drought will officially be on hold for at least a week and a half and in a corresponding move, outfielder Cal Stevenson has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Phillies place Brandon Marsh on 10-Day IL

Brandon Marsh’s absence comes at a time when he was already hanging by a thread offensively — riding an 0-for-29 slump and looking completely lost at the plate.

Maybe this injury gives him a reset, maybe it delays the inevitable decision the team was going to have to make anyway. Either way, he’s out of the picture for now.

As for Stevenson, the 27-year-old lefty bat was acquired by the Phillies last summer and had a strong spring. He’s been hitting well for the IronPigs and brings speed and a contact-first approach, something the bottom of the Phillies lineup has been missing.

Is he the best option? Probably not. When you have Otto Kemp, a right handed bat absolutely crushing AAA right now, I would have looked his way. Justin Crawford and Gabriel Rincones Jr are also available, but the Phillies are likely waiting on their “time served” clock to start ticking later in the Summer than in mid-April.

No one’s expecting Stevenson to be a savior — but with Marsh struggling, Nick Castellanos banged up, and the outfield mix in flux, he’ll probably get a few cracks to show what he can do.
