Phillies Swept by Mets

Mets dog walk the Phillies in extras, win 4-3 to complete the sweep

So much for revenge. The Phillies rolled back into Citi Field for the first time since getting bounced in the 2024 NLDS, and the Mets greeted them by punting them straight back to Philly.

A three-game sweep. A complete demolition. And a whole lot of deja vu.

Phillies vs Mets Series:

This was the last possible result anyone wanted to see, and of course it played out like a rerun of October which sent this fanbase straight into the shadow realm of misery and despair on April 23, 2025 – long before the actual time to smash the panic button.

Either way, the Phillies couldn’t hit for power, couldn’t hit in the clutch, and couldn’t get the hell out of their own way and now, they’re sitting at 13-12, a full five games back of the Mets — with zero head-to-head opportunities until mid-June.

Same Problems for the Phillies, Different Day/Month/Year Etc

The definition of insanity is doing the same exact thing, over and over, and expecting different results. When you run the same lineup out there that fell short and had glaring issues over the past few years, then it should come as no surprise that this team goes ice cold together and the result is pure pain and misery for anyone brave enough to watch.

The Phillies have scored just four runs total in their last 30 innings. They have one home run in their last five games. That came off the bat of Bryson Stott on Monday night in a ninth-inning rally that fizzled out as quickly as it started.

Seventeen of the Phillies’ last 18 hits have been singles and the overall numbers from the franchise cornerstones were absolutely miserable.

  • Bryce Harper went 1-for-11
  • Trea Turner went 1-for-12
  • Kyle Schwarber hasn’t gone yard in 60 plate appearances

The heart of this order is flatlining. The Phillies are getting guys on base, sure, but then what? They’re 7-for-their-last-34 with runners on base and stranding them at alarming levels.

Even when they get something going, they blow it.

Castellanos got thrown out at the plate Wednesday in the eighth trying to score from second — not great when your team has zero momentum and can’t cash in anything easy.

Jordan Romano, Again?

Nick Castellanos gave the Phillies a glimmer of hope in the top of the 10th with an RBI single. Then the bullpen walked out and lit that glimmer on fire.

Jordan Romano gave up a game-tying double to Pete Alonso, then Starling Marte — who’s made a career out of killing the Phillies — walked it off with a single up the middle. Just like that, 4-3 Mets. Series over. Sweep complete.

“We’re Fine” Energy is a Tough Sell for the Fanbase

Rob Thomson tried to calm everyone down after the loss, saying:

“I feel like everybody around us is panicking… we’re fine.”

Buddy. You’ve been outscored 14-8 in the series, slugging .280 as a team, and got swept by the same club that body-bagged you last October. Although I absolutely agree with Topper, it’s not hard to see that everyone’s panicking because the issues we worried about in the offseason — power, bullpen, situational hitting — are all very much alive 25 games in.

The Mets, meanwhile, are doing cartwheels. They’re 17-7, 11-1 at home, and undefeated in their last seven games. They’ve got swagger, pitching, and a closer who might be injured but still locked you down two nights ago.

Next Stop: Chicago

The Phillies are now walking into Wrigley to face the highest-scoring team in baseball. Chicago has been mashing all month and has 24 more runs than the next closest team.

The Phillies need a win in the worst way. And not just a 2-1 scrap fest. They need a statement. A game where Harper goes yard, Schwarber goes deep, and the bullpen doesn’t immediately combust like a gas station fire.

This isn’t time to panic. Yet. But if you’re looking for a reason to feel confident… good luck.

The Mets own the Phillies right now. And for those who never survived the March, April, May months of the Phillies regular season, the vibes are yet again at an all-time low.
