Weston Wilson Recalled Kody Clemens DFA

Roster Moves: Weston Wilson returns, Kody Clemens DFA’d as Phillies shuffle the bench

The Phillies are shaking things up. Ahead of Wednesday’s finale in Queens, the team activated slugging utility man Weston Wilson from the injured list, finally bringing some life back to the bench after a month of waiting.

Weston Wilson, who was a lock for the Opening Day roster before a spring oblique injury derailed his momentum, can play both corners in the infield and outfield — something this roster has sorely lacked since Brandon Marsh hit the IL and the rest of the bench became a black hole.

On the flip side, the Phillies designated Kody Clemens for assignment, and fans are going to feel some type of way about it.

Look, we all love a gritty lefty with a famous last name, but Clemens was barely being used — seven games, six at-bats, zero hits. The writing was on the wall. He might clear waivers, but given how thin some teams are on infield depth, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him claimed elsewhere.

In the meantime, Weston Wilson is back, and that matters. In just 49 MLB games, the guy has hit .288 with four homers, a .375 OBP, and real pop from the right side. He can also handle third base and both outfield corners, making him a valuable chess piece for Rob Thomson, especially in late-game situations or matchups against lefties.

If you’re mad about losing Clemens, that’s fair — he had some moments last year and was a good vibes guy in the clubhouse. But baseball’s a production business, and Wilson gives the Phillies a better shot to actually produce off the bench.

And frankly, with the Mets clowning the Phillies so far this week, they’ll take all the reinforcements they can get.
