Phillies grind out a series win against the Cubs thanks to a 10th inning sac fly from Alec Bohm
It wasn’t always pretty, but the Phillies got the job done. Alec Bohm came through with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, and the Phillies pulled out a 3-1 win over the Cubs on Sunday night to take the weekend series at Wrigley Field.
Trea Turner continued his hot streak at the plate, finishing the night 3-for-5 with two RBI, including a huge insurance run in extras by absolutely flying down the line to beat out an infield single. It’s that kind of speed that makes Turner lethal in big moments.
Trea Turner RBI Single:
Aaron Nola — who had been stuck in the mud with an 0-5 record — turned in easily his best outing of the season. Nola tossed seven strong innings, allowing just three hits and one run. He didn’t get the win (classic Phillies no-run support during Nola starts), but he gave the team exactly what they needed: stability and a chance to win.

José Alvarado picked up the win with a clean ninth, and Jordan Romano slammed the door in the 10th for his second save since joining the team.
10th Inning Went Down:
The Phillies’ patience finally paid off. JT Realmuto and Max Kepler worked walks to load the bases, setting up Bohm, who did exactly what he needed to do — a deep enough fly ball to score Nick Castellanos from third.
Alec Bohm delivers in the 10th
Then, after another walk loaded the bases again, Turner flashed the wheels and beat out a grounder to third to bring home Kepler for a critical insurance run. The Cubs had no answer in the bottom of the 10th — Romano cruised through Michael Busch, Dansby Swanson, and Nico Hoerner to seal it.
Phillies Game Notes:
Loading the bases with two walks and taking a simple, professional approach with Bohm’s sac fly. No trying to be the hero with a grand slam. Just good baseball.
Aaron Nola: 7 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 7 strikeouts, 0 walks.
The Phillies are now 15-13 heading into a home series with the Nationals.
Trea Turner looks dialed in right now — a huge positive with Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber still grinding through their ups and downs.
Big-time props to Nola. He needed this kind of start badly.
A win like this, ugly or not, can sometimes be the spark that starts a little run.
