Bryce Harper Arrives, Ranger Suárez Shoves: Phillies destroy Guardians 7-1
Consider that slump busted. Bryce Harper finally looked like Bryce Harper again Saturday night in Cleveland, collecting three hits — including a towering two-run shot — as the Phillies blew open a tight game with a six-run eighth and cruised to a 7-1 win over the Guardians.
Bryce Harper Sighting in Cleveland
I’m not going to say that Bryce Harper definitely read my post yesterday about how it was time he showed up to play baseball this season but there’s no doubt that I put the energy out there…
It’s time for Bryce Harper to snap out of whatever he’s been going through this season
It was Harper’s first three-hit game of the season and a reminder that when he’s right, the Phillies’ lineup looks a whole lot scarier. His 421-foot blast to straightaway center off Jakob Junis put the Phillies up 3-0 and kicked off a run where eight straight batters reached base. Philadelphia sent 11 men to the plate in the inning, collecting seven hits and burying the game.

Harper now sits at 998 career RBI, just two shy of joining a club only 13 players in MLB history have entered before turning 33: 1,000 RBI, 1,000 runs, and 1,000 walks.
That’s legend status. Nothing else to say about it.
Nick Castellanos added a two-run double in the eighth, and Kyle Schwarber — because of course — tacked on an RBI single earlier in the game. Schwarber’s reached base safely in 45 straight, now tied with Odubel Herrera for the fourth-longest streak in Phillies history.
Max Kepler is back too
Shoutout Ranger Suárez.
How scary is this rotation when Ranger Suarez is pitching like that out of the fifth spot?
Last night, our guy had me feeling like this…
Making just his second start of the year after missing the first five weeks with a back issue, Suárez shoved. He went seven scoreless innings, allowed just three hits, struck out five, walked one, and retired 11 straight during one stretch.
The only thing keeping the Guardians from a shutout? A ninth-inning sac fly from Carlos Santana, who notched his 1,100th career RBI in the process.
The Phillies go for the series win (and a 5-1 road trip) on Sunday night behind Zack Wheeler (3-1, 3.35 ERA). Cleveland counters with Luis Ortiz (2-3, 5.30 ERA).
Last night was a big one on the road and much needed for the Phillies, who have now won 10 of 13 games and trail the New York Mets by 1.5 games in the NL East Standings.
