Report: Sixers promote Jameer Nelson to Assistant GM — Chester’s own keeps climbing the Front Office ladder

Jameer Nelson is moving on up in Philly. According to Shams Charania, the Sixers are promoting Nelson to assistant general manager, continuing his steady rise inside the front office after his impressive 14-year NBA career.

For those keeping score at home, this move has been brewing for a while. Nelson, 43, has been grinding behind the scenes since 2020 with the Sixers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, first as assistant GM and then running the show as GM.

Jameer Nelson didn’t just clock in and collect a paycheck—he helped turn Delaware into a legit developmental pipeline and contender in the G League.

Now, he steps into the big chair in Philly, joining Ned Cohen as the two assistant GMs under Elton Brand and Daryl Morey’s front office umbrella.

Of course, this leaves the Blue Coats without their lead shot-caller, so the Sixers will have to fill that seat sooner than later.

The Sixers Front Office Tree (For Now)

  • Daryl Morey – President of Basketball Ops (still calling the biggest shots)
  • Elton Brand – General Manager
  • Peter Dinwiddie – EVP of Basketball Ops
  • Prosper Karangwa – VP of Player Personnel
  • Ned Cohen & Jameer Nelson – Assistant General Managers

Jameer Nelson’s rise is a feel-good local story, too. The Chester native and Saint Joseph’s legend is now officially part of the Sixers’ brain trust. And after watching Cohen handle the NBA Draft Lottery room Monday night, don’t be surprised if Nelson starts getting more of a public-facing role as the team pivots into draft season.
