Eagles most underrated player (arguably) is rumored to be next in line for a pay day

The Eagles have been busy this offseason reloading for another title run, but there’s one more move Howie Roseman needs to make before Week 1: pay Reed Blankenship.

The former undrafted safety out of Middle Tennessee and most importantly one half of the “exciting whites” or the “milk men” as we like to call them here at TheLibertyLine, has been nothing short of a beast over the past two seasons, but he’s still flying under the radar — just like he always has. But that might be changing soon.

You can argue he was the glue guy of the secondary last season, especially with CJ Gardner-Johnson in and out of the lineup. Now that CJGJ has been traded to the Texans, Reed’s value just shot through the roof.

Eagles’ Safety Reed Blankenship getting some PFF love

Blankenship posted an 87.2 coverage grade from PFF last season — eighth-best among all safeties since 2022 — and she’s just now receiving the praise he deserves. Eagles fans know what he brings. He’s tough, smart, and hits like a truck. The dude had four interceptions last year and consistently made plays in the biggest moments. What more do you want?

A Bargain No More

Blankenship is currently heading into the final year of his rookie deal — just $3.575 million — and barring something unexpected, it’ll be the last time Philly gets this kind of elite production for that kind of price.

He’ll be a free agent after the 2025 season, and if Howie doesn’t lock him in now, someone else will throw a bag at him in March. And to be honest, he’s earned it.

Pay the Man

Blankenship went from undrafted to undeniable. He’s still only 26 and has proven he can anchor a championship-caliber defense. The Eagles don’t just need to reward him — they need him.

“You just focus on the work,” Blankenship told reporters last year. “This city respects hard-nosed football. That’s all I try to bring.”

That’s Philly. That’s Reed. It’s time to get him locked in before it’s too late.
