PGA TOUR trolls Panthers after Scottie Scheffler win at Quail Hollow, then quickly deletes the evidence

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler fought off a rocky front nine, brushed off Jon Rahm’s brief surge, and closed like a runaway train to win the 2025 PGA Championship by five shots at Quail Hollow Club. The victory marked Scheffler’s third career major title—and his first that didn’t come at Augusta.

PGA Tour’s social media team decided to let it fly a little more than usual. And then immediately regretted it. Following Scheffler’s dominant five-shot win at Quail Hollow on Sunday to claim his third career major, the TOUR posted a now-deleted graphic comparing Scheffler’s win total since 2022 to… the Carolina Panthers.

On one side: Scheffler holding the Wanamaker Trophy. On the other: Panthers QB Bryce Young mid-scramble. The caption read “Wins since 2022″ with the very real numbers of Scottie Scheffler 15, and the Carolina Panthers 14.

As funny (and accurate) as the stat was, the joke probably didn’t land well with Panthers ownership—specifically billionaire David Tepper, who just so happens to live on the course and is a member at Quail Hollow.

The TOUR yanked the post off Instagram and X not long after it went up. But not before Joe Person of The Athletic screenshotted and shared it with the world.

Listen, you can never delete posts on social media. Back in the good old days, we used to operate under the guise that history would always be retweeted so what’s the point? The damage has been done and by deleting it, you’re just adding fuel to the fire.

I guess if there’s the thought that big money is involved that changes the situation a little but either way, that card is just showing you the real numbers.

For anyone to get offended over that instead of offended by the product that the Carolina Panthers have put out on a football field for the last decade seems a bit misguided, right?

The Panthers? Not exactly trending the same way.

You’d think the PGA Tour might want to keep things diplomatic when they’re borrowing a venue from an NFL owner but hey, it’s hard to blame the intern who let one fly after another week of watching Scheffler play a different game than everyone else.

Either way, the score stands: Scottie 15, Panthers 14. If things keep trending in this direction, the Panthers might find themselves in an even bigger hole when the 2025 NFL season begins next September, so this won’t be changing anytime soon.
