Sixers Offseason: Player options, key decisions, and roster clarity ahead of a crucial Summer
The 2025 NBA Draft might be dominating the headlines, but the Sixers have more than just the No. 3 overall pick to think about this summer.
With a handful of player and team options set to be decided by the June 29 deadline, this offseason will be about reshaping the rosterโeither around a new top-tier rookie or with potential trades in mind. Here’s where things stand and how I would personally handle the decision-making.
PLAYER OPTIONS
Kelly Oubre Jr. โ $8.4 million
According to multiple reports, the expectation is that Oubre will be back in Philly for another run. Heโs become a favorite of Nick Nurse for his defensive activity and ability to get downhill in transition, even if his outside shooting remains shaky (29.3% from deep last year). Oubre said it best: โI feel like I like to finish what I start, and I don’t feel complete.โ
Drew: Bring Him Back.
Andre Drummond โ $5 million
Drummond missed nearly half the season with a toe injury but still provided a veteran presence and took pride in mentoring rookie Adem Bona. He sounded ready to run it back: โThereโs stuff thatโs missing that I havenโt completed here yetโฆ I think we still have the pieces to win at the highest level.โ
Drew: Say Goodbye.
Eric Gordon โ $3.5 million
The 36-year-old started the season cold but found his rhythm before needing wrist surgery in February. His 40.9% three-point clip could still be valuable off the bench, but whether he picks up that option remains a question. For now, heโs focused on rehab.
Drew: Get Him Out.
TEAM OPTIONS
Justin Edwards โ $2 million
This feels like a lock. Edwards, one of the few bright spots from last yearโs bleak campaign, averaged 10.1 points and 3.4 boards and showed real two-way promise. โHeโs a great hidden gem,โ Kyle Lowry said. Itโs hard to imagine the Sixers not picking up this team-friendly deal.
Drew: Bring Him Back.
Jared Butler โ $2.3 million
Butler quietly played solid ball down the stretch, averaging 11.5 points and 4.9 assists in 28 games after arriving in a midseason trade. With a cheap team option and youth on his side, he fits the backcourt depth pictureโespecially if the Sixers plan to retain Quentin Grimes and pair him with Maxey and McCain.
Drew: Say Goodbye
Lonnie Walker IV โ $2.9 million
Walkerโs season was interrupted by a March concussion, but he made noise late, averaging nearly 23 points over the final five games. His 31-point outburst in the finale was a reminder of the scoring punch he can provide. A $2.9M option looks like a steal if he continues to develop as a bench scorer.
Drew: Bring Him Back
What This Means for the Sixers Roster
With Tyrese Maxey due for a major payday, and the No. 3 pick incoming, the Sixers have to be smart about who they retain. But the good news is that most of these optionsโespecially the team-controlled onesโare low-risk, high-upside decisions.
Expect the Sixers to prioritize flexibility while keeping their young core intact. Daryl Morey may have eyes on bigger fish in free agency, but players like Edwards, Butler, and Walker all could be part of a playoff rotation if the team gets healthy and reloads correctly.
And if the Sixers want to be active in the trade market, these team-friendly contracts will give them options.
