Kyle Schwarber leads Phillies to 9th straight win in extra-inning thriller over A’s

That’s nine straight wins for The Fightins, who keep finding different ways to pull out victories — and Saturday night, it was Kyle Schwarber hitting his MLB-leading 18th home run and a go-ahead double in the 11th to break a 6-6 tie.

The Phillies went on to win 9-6, while the A’s continued spiraling with their 11th consecutive loss and an imploding bullpen that now owns a 10.02 ERA during the skid.

Max Kepler kept the Phils alive, launching a game-tying bomb off Mason Miller in the ninth on a 101.4 mph fastball.

The A’s thought they had it wrapped up before that — they led 5-4, then again 6-5 in the eighth thanks to Brent Rooker’s 12th homer. But even with a lead and their best arm on the mound, they couldn’t hold the Phillies down.

Logan Davidson, who had the kind of MLB debut that nightmares are made of, got thrown out at home in the 10th, committed an obstruction error in the 11th that moved Schwarber to third, and then struck out to end the game.

Shoutout to Brandon Marsh for gunning him down with a rocket from center to save the game in the 10th — the play of the night.

Max Lazar cleaned up the mess in the 11th, earning his first career save. The bullpen stepped up after Joe Ross gave up six runs (five earned) in five innings, with Orion Kerkering tossing a clean 10th to earn the win.

This Phillies team just keeps rolling. They’re 9-0 since a fan hoisted a cross in the outfield last weekend and have now swept back-to-back road series. Starting pitchers had a 1.82 ERA during the first eight games of this streak. Add another win to that, and the hottest rotation in baseball just keeps on cooking.

Jesús Luzardo (5-0, 1.95 ERA) takes the mound in Sunday’s finale looking to complete the 10-game sweep stretch. He’ll face Gunnar Hoglund (1-2, 5.06 ERA) in a mismatch on paper.
