WATCH: Denzel Clarke goes full Spider Man to rob home run in Toronto homecoming

The Oakland A’s may have dropped another one to the Blue Jays on Friday night, but Denzel Clarke gave everyone at Rogers Centre a highlight they’ll be talking about for years.

The Toronto-born outfielder was already playing in front of what he estimated would be about 200 family members and friends this series, and on Friday, he put on a show in his hometown.

Clarke entered the game mired in a rough 1-for-19 slump to start his big-league career, but bounced back in a big way — going 2-for-3 with a walk and his first-ever MLB RBI. Solid night at the plate.

But the moment of the night? No question — the catch.

In the bottom of the fourth, Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk launched what looked like a no-doubt, 407-foot home run to center. Denzel Clarke sprinted back, timed his leap perfectly, scaled the wall like Spider-Man, and robbed the homer with one of the sickest catches you’ll see this season.

Seriously — he made it look almost casual.

“He’s as advertised. He’s going to make some unbelievable plays out there,” said one A’s pitcher after the game. “As a pitcher, that’s exactly what you want.”

Even A’s manager Mark Kotsay was blown away.

“Climbing the wall and timing it to make it look almost routine is pretty insane,” Kotsay said. “His defense was on display again.”

Unfortunately for the A’s, the rest of the night didn’t go as smoothly. They fell 11-7 to Toronto and are now 0-2 in the four-game set.

But Denzel Clarke’s showing was a huge personal win — especially with family in the stands. He’ll look to build on it Saturday as the series continues. If that Spider-Man act was any indication, this kid is ready for the spotlight.
