Flyers re-sign Helge Grans to 2-year contract

The Flyers locked up another piece of their young core Friday, re-signing RFA defenseman Helge Grans to a two-year, $1.575 million contract.

The deal is structured as a two-way contract in Year 1 and a one-way deal in Year 2, carrying an AAV of $787,500. Grans, still only 23, will remain a restricted free agent when this new deal expires.

It’s a smart move for Philly, as Grans showed flashes of potential this past season when called upon. With the Flyers battling injuries on the blue line in November, Grans got the call-up and made his NHL debut. He appeared in six games, recording an assist, five blocked shots, and playing steady minutes.

Down in Lehigh Valley, Grans had a strong season for the Phantoms, posting 23 points (8 goals, 15 assists) with a minus-2 rating across 66 regular-season games, and adding four points in seven playoff games.

Helge Grans First NHL Point

Originally a 2020 second-round pick of the Kings, Helge Grans arrived in Philly as part of the Ivan Provorov three-team trade in June 2023. He’s one of several promising young blueliners looking to make a bigger impact under the Flyers’ new coaching staff this fall.

With Tyson Foerster also re-signed this week, the Flyers are slowly checking off their list of RFAs. Cam York, Noah Cates, and Jakob Pelletier remain next in line for new deals.

Helge Grans is now officially in the mix for a bigger role next season. Let’s see what the big 6’4” righty can do with another full offseason to impress the new staff.
