Rhys Hoskins haunts Phillies with two homers as Brewers pummel Philly 17-7
Well, that was ugly. The Phillies took another beating on Saturday as Rhys Hoskins returned to Citizens Bank Park and absolutely torched his former team, leading the Brewers to a 17-7 rout.
Brewers beat Phillies 17-7
In case the first game of this series wasn’t enough, Saturday’s mess officially makes it three straight losses for the Phillies — and this one was a bloodbath.
Hoskins wasted no time making his presence felt, drilling a three-run homer in the first inning to put Milwaukee up 4-0 before Jesús Luzardo could even settle in. He later added another three-run blast, finishing with two homers, six RBIs, and probably enough standing ovations from Brewers fans in the ballpark to last him the year.
Rhys Hoskins second 3-run HR of the day…..
For Rhys Hoskins, it was his 13th career multi-homer game, and his first since 2022 — back when he was still in Philly red.
As if that wasn’t enough, Jackson Chourio also went off, racking up four hits, five RBIs, including a three-run homer of his own. Christian Yelich? No problem — just another four-hit day for him too. The Brewers piled up 23 hits in total and ran their win streak to six straight.
On the mound, Chad Patrick cruised for Milwaukee, giving up just two runs on five hits across six innings.
For the Phillies, this was easily Luzardo’s worst outing in a Philly uniform. The lefty had been dominant through his first 11 starts — never allowing more than three runs in a game — but that streak imploded in spectacular fashion.
Luzardo lasted just 3 1/3 innings, giving up 12 earned runs on 12 hits. He became just the 12th pitcher in MLB history to allow 12 earned runs in 3 1/3 innings or fewer.
Alec Bohm hit a solo homer, Brandon Marsh added a two-run shot, and Kyle Schwarber had three hits, including an RBI double, to provide some offense. But it was nowhere near enough to overcome Milwaukee’s onslaught.
Even Rob Thomson couldn’t stomach it — the Phillies manager was ejected in the fourth inning after arguing a balk call.
Brewers-Phillies Game Notes
Hoskins’ first homer came on a 2-1 fastball from Luzardo, staking the Brewers to a 4-0 lead just 13 pitches into the game
Luzardo hadn’t allowed more than three runs in a game all season. He gave up four runs to the first four batters on Saturday.
The Phillies will look to salvage the finale on Sunday with Ranger Suárez (4-0, 2.97 ERA) on the mound against Jose Quintana (4-1, 2.65 ERA) for Milwaukee
After three straight ugly losses, it’s bounce-back time — and it needs to happen fast.
