Kyle Schwarber just completed an absurd month of May and there’s reason to believe June will be even better
Kyle Schwarber just put together one of the filthiest months of his career, and the Phillies would be absolutely nuts not to do everything they can to keep this guy in red pinstripes after the season.
We all know what Schwarber brings to this lineup — insane power, a boatload of walks, and the occasional strikeout-induced groan but his May numbers were on another level.
In 28 games, Schwarber slashed .288/.403/.644 with a 1.047 OPS. That wasn’t just good — it wasn’t even close. No other Phillies regular was within 125 OPS points of him for the month.
Kyle Schwarber led the team with 10 home runs and 20 RBI, paired his 31 strikeouts with a team-best 19 walks. Nobody else on the team even hit double-digit walks in May. That’s what you get with Schwarber — a power bat who still finds ways to get on base constantly.
And this isn’t just a hot month. For the season, through 59 games, Schwarber is slashing .266/.398/.584 with a team-leading .950 OPS. He already has 19 bombs and 44 RBI, along with 43 walks and 61 strikeouts.
Since arriving in Philly before the 2022 season, Schwarber has been a machine. He’s hit at least 38 homers and driven in at least 94 RBI each of the last three years. Back-to-back 46 and 47 homer seasons in 2022 and 2023, with 104 RBI in both years.
The only real “weak” part of his game was the batting average, which hovered around .200 in those seasons. This year, he’s on pace for his best year since his .291/.435/.522 stretch with Boston in 2021.
Now we arrive to the month of June where Kyle Schwarber typically dominates.
Kyle Schwarber’s June Track Record
It’s no secret June tends to be Kyle Schwarber’s month — and the numbers back it up:
- In June 2024, Schwarber hit .267 with 24 hits, 6 home runs, 14 RBIs, and 17 runs scored over 23 games.
- In June 2023, he posted a .223 average with 23 hits, 8 homers, 16 RBIs, and 19 runs scored in 26 games.
- Back in June 2022, he put together one of his best stretches — hitting .272 with 28 hits, 12 home runs, 27 RBIs, and 27 runs scored across 27 games.
Free Agency Looms for Kyle Schwarber
Bryce Harper weighs in on Kyle Schwarber’s future in Philadelphia
Kyle Schwarber is a free agent after this season. If he keeps this up, he’s easily in line for a nine-figure deal. Whether it’s here or somewhere else is certainly in question, but I think John Middleton and Dave Dombrowski will work something out.
Kyle Schwarber’s teammates send clear message to Phillies’ Front Office, ‘Pay the Man’
If the Phillies have any brains, they’ll lock Schwarber up sooner than later. May was a perfect reminder of how important Schwarber is to this team’s identity and success. You simply don’t let bats like this walk out the door.
Pay the man.
