Bryce Harper homers in return, Trea Turner goes deep twice as Phillies snap skid in Toronto
Well, that’s one way to snap a losing streak. Bryce Harper wasted no time reminding everyone why he’s the heartbeat of this Phillies lineup. After missing five games with a bruised elbow, Harper launched a home run in his first at-bat Tuesday night — setting the tone for an 8-3 win over the Blue Jays that ended the Phils’ four-game slide.

And if that wasn’t enough, Trea Turner followed with a monster night of his own, going deep twice in the game, including a two-run shot in the first and a solo blast in the eighth. It was Turner’s first multi-homer game of the season and the 18th of his career.

The Phillies pounced early, hanging a six-spot on Toronto in the first inning. Bryson Stott drew a leadoff walk, Turner hit the first homer, Harper followed with a 394-foot bomb, and the inning just kept rolling. Max Kepler added an RBI single and Stott drove in two more with another hit to cap off the big frame — matching the team’s largest inning of the season.
Cristopher Sánchez delivered a strong outing, giving up just one run across six innings to improve to 5-1 on the year. The lefty was sharp and in control, earning his first win since May 7.

Toronto’s Addison Barger kept his hot streak alive, hitting his fourth homer in as many games, but that was about the only bright spot for the Jays. Bowden Francis got lit up early, allowing seven runs (six earned) in just 1 2/3 innings as the Blue Jays’ five-game winning streak came to an end.
Alec Bohm also made a highlight-reel play back at third base, making a diving stop on a George Springer grounder and throwing from one knee to get the out.
Phillies-Blue Jays Game Notes:
The Phillies have now won 14 of their last 16 road games. Bryce Harper finished the night 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in his return. Trea Turner’s two homers bring his season total to seven.
The series continues Wednesday night with rookie Mick Abel (1-0, 0.00 ERA) making his second big-league start for the Phillies against Toronto’s José Berríos (2-2, 3.86 ERA).
