Wells Fargo Center Xfinity Mobile Arena

Goodbye Wells Fargo Center, hello Xfinity Mobile Arena…and a few potential nicknames to go with it

Well, it’s started — the Wells Fargo Center sign officially came down on Thursday. Crews were spotted yanking the letters off the South Philly arena as the building gears up for its upcoming name change to Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Wells Fargo Center signage removed in South Philly

I do have a question. According to reports, the Xfinity Mobile Arena deal doesn’t actually kick in until September so…what exactly is happening between now and then?

The Wells Fargo Center is now the Xfinity Mobile Arena >>

Is the building just going to sit there sign-less all summer? Are we raw dogging an unbranded arena for concerts and events in July and August?

No word yet if Xfinity plans to roll out temporary signage or sneak some branding up early — definitely something to monitor.

The official announcement from Comcast Spectacor and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment last month said the Xfinity Mobile deal will cover the 2030-31 seasons for the Flyers and Sixers.

It’s part of the arena’s massive rebrand, fresh off that $400 million renovation project that got the place ranked as a top-10 venue in 2024.

We’re all wondering what this thing is actually going to look like when the new signage goes up. The early mockups featured purple branding — which…cannot be permanent, right? Are we really going to have a lit up purple arena in the South Philly Sports Complex? How does that make any sense?

No offense to Xfinity Mobile’s brand team, but if you think purple belongs on a Philly sports building that hosts the Flyers, Sixers, you might want to try again.

Obviously, we need Philly colors. Play it safe with black, orange, red, and blue. Hell, even silver works — but purple isn’t going to cut it.

As for Xfinity Mobile Arena nicknames:

  • “The X” (lazy)
  • “The Electric Boogaloo” (sorry)
  • “The Mobe” (worse than The Farg)
  • “The Phone Booth” – (you’re welcome)

I used to call the Wells Fargo Center “The Well” but everyone was too stuck on “The Farg” which is probably the worst nickname ever. We missed our last chance. “The Phone Booth” is there for the taking so please, let’s not let this one slip away.

The Wells Fargo Center era is officially over. For now, the building’s naked, the new name isn’t live yet, and we’ll be watching to see what Xfinity does this summer. Stay tuned.
