Lane Johnson says he’s just now reaching his peak at 35

In a world where most NFL offensive linemen are praying just to stay on the field by their mid-30s, Lane Johnson is out here talking about reaching his peak. Yes, peak. At 35 years old.

During a recent interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia, Lane Johnson said he feels better now than he did when he was 29 or 30. And honestly, after everything this guy’s battled through — ankle injuries, surgeries, and who knows how many taped-up joints — it’s borderline absurd that he’s still playing at this level. But that’s exactly what makes Lane Johnson different.

“I feel like I’m getting close to maybe my peak,” Johnson said. “As weird as it is to say, but that’s truly how I feel.”

Weird? Sure. But when you watch him play, it’s hard to argue. There isn’t a more dominant right tackle in football. The man erases elite pass rushers like it’s light work, and the Eagles’ entire offense has thrived in large part because of his consistency up front. Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith — they all get to eat because Lane Johnson keeps the kitchen clean.

Lane Johnson Continues To Defy Father Time

The reality is, most guys at 35 are hanging on by a thread, taking vet days every other practice, and counting down the days to retirement. Lane Johnson? He’s trying to break the damn Combine for 10-year vets. He even joked about the league setting up a separate testing day for players with a decade of wear and tear. Something tells me he’d torch half the league even now.

For the Eagles, this is music to their ears. Four of last year’s starting linemen are back as the Birds look to defend their Super Bowl title, and a fully healthy, still ascending Lane Johnson only makes this offense more terrifying.

As long as No. 65 is holding down the right side, the Eagles remain one of the most dangerous teams in football. And if Lane Johnson truly has another gear? Good luck to the rest of the league.
