Update: John Kruk has been compromised, backtracks Philadelphia 76ers boycott
Well, that was quick. John Kruk has already pulled back from the front lines of the Philadelphia 76ers boycott after joining the resistance on Tuesday night.
Two nights ago in Miami, Kruk said on the broadcast Tuesday night that he’ll never ring the bell at a Sixers game again and that he’s boycotting the team. That was music to the ears of most 76ers fans these days, who are completely fed up with the organization that they once loved.
John Kruk joins the Philadelphia 76ers boycott
Obviously, no one blamed John Kruk for this one.
Whether he was joking or not, that’s pretty much the same type of response that you’ll hear from anyone in the Delaware Valley when talking about the Philadelphia 76ers these days.
As I’m sure you know, it’s a sad state of affairs that has been unfolding for years at this point.
It was however, a significant shift in what Kruk has said in the past.
The Times Appeared to Have Changed…
Kruk was a huge Sixers fan. He used to tweet about them regularly, used to show up and support, so the fact that appeared to be jumping ship was telling the rest of us who already took the plunge that he finally realized that the current state of the 76ers organization was unacceptable.
John Kruk used to love the Philadelphia 76ers…shame
He was a big get for the resistance. If Kruk couldn’t stomach this team anymore, what hope do the rest of us have, right?
Not so fast. Who knows what really happened but Kruk responded to a Crossing Broad post about his boycott (even though we posted about it first) saying that he wasn’t serious about the boycott and the only reason he stopped watching was because it wasn’t as fun as it used to be when the kids were still in the house.
John Kruk clarifies that he is not boycotting the 76ers
Fine. That makes sense. I won’t speculate that Joshua Harris or NBC Sports Philadelphia compromised John Kruk and demanded that he backtrack his statements on joining the boycott movement. I won’t say that his reasoning basically confirms the 76ers stink now and there’s no point in watching them which is essentially a boycott.
Instead, we won’t knock John Kruk, obviously. I do however, think that everyone used to watch the Philadelphia 76ers and had a lot more fun than what we are all witnessing these days.
The Sixers are a tire fire dressed up like a playoff team. They’re sitting on a championship window that’s technically still open but you can hear the hinges creaking.
76ers ghosted by Ace Bailey ahead of NBA Draft; Morey not ruling him out
Meanwhile, we’re all just sitting here like passengers on the Titanic, holding out hope while the band plays. The Sixers front office insists this is win-now mode. They tell us that Paul George will be 100% and Joel Embiid will bounce back.
Free Kon Kneuppel: Could Duke’s 2nd prospect be the best pick for the Sixers at No. 3?
Morey says the the third pick will be a contributor right away while also saying it will be flipped for a star who complements the two mega-contracts on this roster. You can pretend to be happy about this basketball team but you’re not fooling anyone.
If there is no roadmap to contending and you can’t even see the path, it probably doesn’t exist, right? The fans feel it, with or without John Kruk on board with us.
