It’s been 35 days since ten inmates broke out of the Orleans Parish Justice Center. Eight are back behind bars. The other two? Still gone. Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves have somehow vanished into thin air while the rest of the country moved on.

In the early days of the manhunt, there was nonstop coverage. Friends and family of the escapees were getting picked off left and right—23 arrests within 12 days. Betting sites were even posting odds on when the last two fugitives would be caught.

As of today, Massey and Groves are still out there.

No new photos, no press conferences, no arrests. Just silence.

Antoine Massey, the Familiar Face

Antoine Massey is the more recognizable of the two. That face tattoo doesn’t exactly scream “low profile,” but somehow he’s managed to disappear—again. This isn’t his first rodeo. He escaped from a juvenile facility in 2007. He escaped from a detention center in 2019. He cut off his ankle monitor in 2023. And now in 2025, here he is still outsmarting law enforcement.

Antoine Massey even posted a video to Instagram after the escape, which seems like the exact opposite of what you should do when the FBI is looking for you. But maybe he knows something the rest of us don’t.

This is the third time he’s slipped away. Maybe he figures he’ll get caught eventually, so he might as well make his case public. Maybe he’s trying to attract a lawyer with something to prove.

And for what it’s worth, there’s another Instagram account that people think is his, but that’s clearly fake. It’s all recycled content. No way he’s actively running an account while evading a federal manhunt. Right?

Derrick Groves, the Wild Card

Then there’s Derrick Groves. Not as flashy as Massey, but allegedly the most dangerous of the group. A convicted double murderer with a violent track record in prison. If this ends badly, it’ll likely involve him.

Groves also has a deeper backstory. His grandmother, Kim Groves, was killed in 1994 after she reported a brutal beating by a New Orleans police officer. The officer was later convicted of having her murdered.

That case shook the city. If you’re looking for a reason Groves might not trust anyone in law enforcement, there it is. He’s been quiet. No videos, no sightings. Just completely off the grid.

So What Now?

Most experts say over 90 percent of prison escapees are eventually caught. Some put that number closer to 95 percent in high-profile cases. But we’re now in the 5 percent zone. And no one’s heard anything in weeks.

If you’d asked anyone on Day 1, the assumption would’ve been quick arrests. But Massey and Groves made it past the first wave of house raids and media alerts. That was the hard part. Now they just have to stay invisible.

And honestly? It’s hard not to get drawn in. There’s something about this story—two guys slipping through the cracks, maybe guilty, maybe innocent, just trying to stay free in a world designed to catch them.

It’s not a movie. But it sure feels like one.
