Brand Treason: No self-respecting Villanova grad should want a co-branded baseball hat with the New York Yankees
There’s a line between alumni networking and outright betrayal, and the Villanova University Club of New York City has trampled over it with their latest stunt.
The Villanova University Club of New York City created a Yankees x Nova co-branded baseball cap ahead of the Phillies-Yankees series next month and let me tell you, it’s absolutely disgusting.
The post shows the kind of cursed crossover nobody asked for. Villanova’s logo is sharing cap space with the Yankees logo. Why anyone would think this was a good idea for an officially sanctioned giveaway item is beyond me?
Yankees x Villanova Hat is a Crime Against Both Cities
I’ll be the first to admit that I absolutely hate Villanova. You can credit my Big East days and Scottie Reynolds terrorizing my West Virginia University Mountaineers, back in the early 2000s and my ability to hold a grudge.
I also don’t buy in to the idea that Villanova is a Philly school. I understand where it’s located, and yes, I get that they play at the Wells Fargo Center Xfinity Mobile Arena. They literally have banners in South Philly and I literally do not care so there’s no point in bringing it up.
First, we all had to witness Villanova win two National Championships. We then had to watch those players go to New York and play for the Knicks. Now we have to poison the well yet again and see their dumb “V” logo next to a Yankees logo.
Can’t happen. No self-respecting Nova grad should want this to happen either.
This isn’t “community building.” It’s brand treason. If anyone knows how this passed licensing with both the Yankees and Nova logos intact, I’ve got a hot tip ready for the IP enforcement teams at both institutions.
