Ranger Suarez Phillies Braves Series Win

Ranger Suárez shuts the door on Atlanta, Phillies win series over Braves

Ranger Suárez is a cold-blooded assassin on the mound. On Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, he once again proved why he’s one of the best pitchers in the National League, tossing seven innings of surgical baseball to lead the Phillies to a 2-1 win and a massive series victory over the Braves.

This wasn’t just a good outing — it was vintage Ranger Suarez.

Seven innings, four hits, one run, eight strikeouts, and just one walk. Ranger Suarez dropped his ERA to 2.00 flat and logged his 10th consecutive quality start, a streak no Phillies pitcher has pulled off since Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee back in 2013. Elite company.

Elite: Ranger Suarez

The only blemish came in the second inning when Sean Murphy turned around a fastball and crushed it 451 feet to center. But Ranger shook it off and locked right back in — the kind of stoic, silent killer mentality we’ve seen from him time and time again.

How the Phillies Scored

All the offense came in the fifth. Bryson Stott reached first with a single, and Otto Kemp smoked a double into the left field corner to bring him all the way around. Kemp then tagged and scored on Trea Turner’s sac fly, which ended up being the difference-maker in a tight one.

Otto Kemp RBI Double

That was all the Phillies needed.

Orion Kerkering was nails in the 8th. Matt Strahm made it interesting in the 9th, putting runners on the corners with two outs, but got Stuart Fairchild to fly out to center to end it.

Strider Still Can’t Shake the Phillies

Spencer Strider pitched well — seven innings, five hits, two earned — but took the loss. He’s now 8-2 in 10 career decisions against the Phillies, but this one stings a little more for Atlanta considering the Phils dropped a 13-0 hammer on them Friday and came right back Sunday to clinch the series.

Phillies Game Notes:

  • Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-3 with a walk.
  • Nick Castellanos added two hits as he continues heating up.

Up Next for the Phillies:

The Phillies head home to open a series against the Padres on Monday. Zack Wheeler (7-3, 2.45 ERA) takes the ball for the opener.

This is what good teams do — win series, especially on the road, especially against division rivals. Ranger Suárez has become the quiet ace of this rotation, and the Phillies are riding him straight through the summer.
