Zack Wheeler crowned NL Pitcher of the Month for June

Zack Wheeler just reminded the entire National League that age is nothing but a number, and dominance is still very much part of his game. The Phillies ace was named NL Pitcher of the Month for June, and frankly, there wasn’t much debate.

Zack Wheeler was untouchable in June

Over five starts, he posted a 0.58 ERA, the best mark in all of baseball. He went 2-1, struck out 42 hitters, and gave up just 20 hits and seven walks across 31 innings, good for a 0.87 WHIP. That’s surgical-level stuff.

Three of those five starts…zero earned runs allowed.

Forget the win-loss record. That’s a meaningless, surface level stat

It’s Zack Wheeler’s second career Pitcher of the Month award (his first came in May 2022), and somehow at 35 years old, Wheeler looks as sharp as ever. In fact, this stretch might go down as one of the finest single months by a Phillies pitcher… ever.

Some context:

  • MLB-best ERA (0.58)
  • Tied for 3rd in strikeouts (42)
  • Top 10 in WHIP and opponent batting average
  • And he capped it off by dicing up the Padres for eight shutout innings and 10 Ks.

While Juan Soto (NL Player of the Month) and Cal Raleigh (AL Player of the Month) got their shine for launching baseballs into orbit, Wheeler just kept quietly overpowering lineups without breaking a sweat.

Even Hunter Brown, the AL Pitcher of the Month, had to dismantle the Phillies to get his nod. Poetic, but also a reminder that this Phillies team still hinges on Wheeler being the bulldog up top.

With the All-Star break looming, it’s clear who’s still setting the tone in the Phillies’ rotation. Zack Wheeler isn’t just pitching well for his age. He’s out-pitching nearly everyone, period.
