Phillies smash three home runs to back Ranger Suarez, beat the Reds 5-1
The Phillies bounced back on Saturday with a no-nonsense 5-1 win over the Reds, powered by homers from Alec Bohm, Kyle Schwarber, and another rock-solid start from Ranger Suárez.
After Friday night’s bullpen meltdown, The Fightins flipped the script behind Ranger, who lowered his ERA to 1.99 and continues to pitch like a guy who absolutely belongs not only in the All-Star Game, but in the Cy Young conversation.
Suarez only went five innings, but that was the plan. He came in with an 85-pitch limit after a heavy workload over his last five starts (each at least 7 innings). He struck out six and gave up just one earned run: a solo shot by Will Benson in the fifth.
Edmundo Sosa immediately answered with a solo blast of his own in the bottom half of that inning, and from there, The Fightins took control.

Alec Bohm came through in the sixth with a two-run homer off Nick Lodolo to break the tie and give the Phillies a 3-1 lead.

Kyle Schwarber launched his 27th bomb of the season to put it on ice.
Big moment came in the eighth, when the Reds got their first two runners on against Orion Kerkering, but he induced a ground-ball double play, inning over.
Red-Phillies Game Notes
The bullpen combo of Romano, Banks, Kerkering, and Strahm locked it down with four clean innings, and Jordan Romano picked up the win (1-3).
Trea Turner stayed hot with two more hits, pushing his NL-leading total to 108. He also leads the league in multi-hit games (31), and somehow no one’s talking about it.
Final Line:
- Ranger Suárez: 5 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 6 K
- Bohm: 2-run HR (6th)
- Schwarber: 2-run HR (8th)
- Sosa: Solo HR (5th)
- Phillies Bullpen: 4 IP, 0 R
Up Next: Zack Wheeler (8-3, 2.27 ERA) gets the ball Sunday in the rubber match against Reds rookie Chase Burns (0-1, 13.50 ERA). Time to win the series.
