VJ Edgecombe has ‘no fear at all’ in bounce-back second half performance for the Summer Sixers
VJ Edgecombe started his return to the floor Tuesday night by bricking everything in sight.
The Sixers’ No. 3 overall pick opened his Las Vegas Summer League debut with a brutal 0-for-7 first half against the Wizards. Missed layups, uncalled fouls, off-target jumpers, you name it, VJ Edgecombe struggled with it.
Instead of disappearing for the rest of the game, the 20-year-old regrouped, slowed down, and flat-out took over in the second half, finishing the game with 15 points (4-14 shooting, 1-6 from 3 & 6-6 from the FT line), six rebounds, four assists & three steals in 30 minutes of action.
VJ Edgecombe: 15 PTS, 6 REB, 4 AST, 3 STL
Edgecombe poured in 15 points after halftime and looked every bit like the top-three pick he is. He was relentless attacking the rim, fearless in transition, and even flashed a bit of the playmaking the Sixers hope he develops.
That mental bounce-back and the refusal to back down after a rocky start is exactly what Philadelphia fell in love with during the draft process.
“In the first half, I was trying to get my feet under me, but that ain’t no excuse,” Edgecombe said. “Second half it slowed down… we won, so that’s all that matters.”
Summer League box scores don’t mean much. But moments where a rookie adjusts, and asserts himself anyway is definitely something.
Edgecombe made it loud and clear.
